I’m curious what will happen as energy density in batteries continues to develop. Solid state batteries could drop weight, and there has been promising science. The crazy thing is that we are at a point in time where batteries in cars are enabling them to go from 0-60 in crazy fast times. What will be the standard in ten years, twenty, fifty? The internal combustion engine took 100 years to get to where batteries have gotten in a much shorter time (very abstractly speaking).

If we are not all in government mandated autonomous cars, and we have personal autonomy still to drive on our own, then manufacturers will need to throttle power; to have range without performance/power, that will be necessary to limit total output and rate of delivery.

And the modders/tuners will work to overcome any limits that the manufacturers impose.

I don't necessarily hate Tesla, I hate imprecise language and am suspicious of claims made using imprecise language, which, coincidentally, Tesla has a history of.

From your original 30 minutes of spirited driving claim using only 9 miles or range, I determined that we have very different definitions of spirited, the range display was inaccurate, or your claim was false.

There is no replacement for first hand experience. 9 miles in 30 minutes and still driving spiritedly is completely possible.

My buddy just got his Model 3 and loves it so far, I'll have to go check it out soon.

Tesla owners are beginning to sound like vegans, they have to let everyone know lol.

I personally don't care for electric cars or hybrids.

Just don't like the cloud-like nothingness of EV mode.

Its appealing in its own little way but give me a gas burning engine any day.

I think that what is being missed in the level of regen from braking during spirited driving. The regen system doesn't do much at stop and go but works very well during heavy driving. The impact on the range can be substantial. People are just so used to mileage based upon fuel consumed that a self replenishing power source messes with their heads.

I'd give it 50 years max before combustion engine goes the way of the steam engine. It'll eventually become illegal to drive it on public roads.

Many of the very first cars were electric.
Imagine if they had been more popular in the beginning than internal combustion? Where would we be today if over the last 100+ years they had been the primary focus of advances in tech instead of petrol or diesel?

I've said this before, but that is basically where I come down on electrics (or other alternative fuels).

I don't care what fuels my car, I just need for the fuel to be available. I guess I'm just not an early adopter, particularly since you can't fill a jerry can with extra "electric fuel" just in case.

Perfect example from last week. MomHawk and I went to Myrtle Beach, SC for the week on a scheduled vacation. 400 mile drive. No big deal, except that MB was just recovering from Hurricane Florence and a lot of roads were closed/flooded. We went a roundabout way to get there including some roads that barely had fueling stations, never mind charging stations.

I would have never taken that trip in an electric car, even if it was within the range of a single charge, just too many variables. I also wouldn't buy a car I couldn't take that trip in.

As an aside, since this matters to me, the Model 3 is about the ugliest car I've seen since the Aztec, and at least the Aztec had quirky character, like it or not. Tesla really needs to hire some people that know how to do coachwork IMO.

Battery technology will change EVERYTHING!

I sell battery powered devices, so this is a discussion that is very common where I work. "When will battery density increase enough to double or even quadrupal our run time?"

Imagine waking up in a cold tent, but you have a hair dryer that looks like a cordless drill, and the battery lasts 4 hours on high heat, so you turn it on and Warm up your tent in a few minutes...

We will get there... It will be amazing!
