Is there a thread on Extended Warranties? I am at 11k and need to decide.

Is there a thread on Extended Warranties? I am at 11k and need to decide. I have a 2016 and I would like to know exactly what I am getting into BEFORE I purchase an extended warranty from the Toyota dealer. Thanks in advance.

Just know that any claim made to the extended warranty will be denied if at all possible. They will try to blame anything they can so they do not have to pay. Even if the oil changes are not on time they can try to use it to deny you. If you plan on modding the car at all do not buy one. I have had 2 cars with extended warranties. My first car I got one for and it was a smart move. The AC system needed to be replaced and it basically paid for the warranty. The second car was a much better made car and never had a major issue so it was a waste. If you do get it, make sure you become good friends with the person you will be dealing with to fix your car. Tip them well and they can help you with warranty claims a lot.

I paid $1200.00 for my extended warranty. IMHO it was a reasonable price. I had a extended warranty on my 91 Honda Civic HB for $1000.00. It came in handy when my A/C had to be replaced. I wouldn't pay more than $1200.00 for a extended warranty. Just my 2 cents!

I'd put the money away for DIY repairs, that's just me.

First and foremost do you have a good relationship with the dealership? Do you believe they'll do the work or do you think they'll give you problems? Regardless of anything else, if you don't trust the people doing the work then cancel ASAP.

Don't bother if you plan on driving it hard, burning up the tires, autocross, hpde, modifying anything beyond the absolute basics (sooo many electrical problems because people just have to have bright white led's everywhere), stuff in the Toyota/TRD catalog will probably be ok though.

If it's just a DD weekend cruiser reliable transport that isn't a snoozebox then you might be ok.

60k miles on mine, two coilpack failures which wouldn't have been covered anyway, never taken it back to the dealership.
