Beware! FT86speedfactory

Spent over 4k with them on parts for my new BRZ. Good speedy little shop.

Bought what I thought was a set of DBA5000 Series Rotors because the item title reads:
"DBA Front Drilled and Slotted 2pc Rotors" exact words.

Ok. 2 pieces of rotors. Sounds good!
When package came, I only got one. So I emailed them and asked them.

This is the reply:

We have listed that rotor description as best we can. Those rotors are 2 pieces, I don't know how else we would describe them. In the description we state they are sold individually and that you would need to order 2 for a set.

If that is an item you do not want, feel free to ship it back to us at:
JB Autosports
RMA15960
108 Jefferson Ave.
Des Moines, IA 50314

So I tried to help them out:

I can help you there: "2pc Single Rotor (no “S” because its singular)”

“S” makes it plural which means more than one.

As for the description, why would you leave the most important information all the way in the bottom below the wall of text? do you want to confuse customers? move it up there.

Honestly, "2pc rotors” looks like 2 pieces of rotors. You guys even added the “s”.

Their reply:

We will look into having the product updated and specified better. That's the best we can do. Our apologies.

After I asked them who is paying for shipping, their reply:

The shipping cost would be up to you if you want to send it back. We have the necessary information on the product page for that item.

If you are wanting a refund when you return the item, we would be willing to lower the return fee from 20% to 6% if that's the route you would want to take. Otherwise we can issue in store credit in full or switch them out with a pair of rotors you would want.

If we didn't mention the need to purchase two rotors for a set I would understand but we have it listed if you were to take the time and read the product page.

Are they offering you a refund without any kind of fees being incurred? I'd say that's pretty good resolution for a communication issue.

This goes back to shady ebay ads where they sell the box of a product and in the details it states it's just a box. You got to read the whole thing even if it's on the bottom of the page. That's for any vendor, on any site online. I could see how you made the mistake, so I don't truly put you at fault here. However the way you persecute them for the "s" of a tag they probably copied and pasted from their vendor, and yet let yourself slide for not reading the whole page.

Well I think it's just your frustrations with the situation bleeding through. Seems like they care enough to say sorry, we'll work on the website description, and send it back for a refund.

If there was a vendor forum, I wouldn't be surprised if they warned each other about selling anything to you.

I mean, they gave you the option to return it and they will amend the mistake. Do you want them to invite you for candlelight dinner also? Or you never make mistakes?

If you don't like the tone of the above in this post, well, that's kinda how you sound sir No offence meant

This is a reputable vendor. And this post reflects negatively on them for doing nothing out of the ordinary. If you look at other rotors from them there is a drop down that front, rear, all four and has options. Their wheels also typically say "set of 4". Sometimes descriptions slip through. Especially when it comes to items such as "rotors" I would personally list this as rotors even as a single item. Items that are commonly ordered in multiple quantities typically just get typed in as a plural name. Most vendors use an import feature to import products from their distributor list and the distributor typically lists names in plurarlly.

The vendor offered to have you return so why are you bothering to post a bullshit thread like this up? I don't see in any way shape or form of you getting ripped off... I've had this happen to me many times when ordering from other vendors, and even Amazon and I look back and laugh when I realize I didn't consider if it was a single item or not.

They wanted to charge me a 6% restocking fee down from a 20%. I have to pay for return shipping.

The vendor response seems fairly decent to me in light of the confusion, and you have some reasonable options...the thread title seems a bit overzealous

Would it be even better if they ate the return shipping cost? Sure, but the issue here lies in a gray area without clear fault on either party to the transaction.

It would seem to me that this thread backfired. As someone stated, ft86speedfactory is a reputable vendor on this site and they have their following here. You are not going to get the response you wanted and would be better off either amending the title or facing the facts that as a company that has as little overhead cost as possible, they are trying to do what they can while maintaining business. If everyone that bought items without reading and doing their research asked for full refunds for a mistake on their end, all businesses would go belly up. Haven't you ever purchased something while drunk and received the item a few days later and asked "what the fuck is this?" Would you expect the company to refund without any fees and them having to pay for your mistake?

Not sure if its been modified but the product page makes its pretty damn obvious that the price is per rotor.

I would read "2pc rotors" as a separate hat and rotor.

I don't understand. The picture shows a 2 piece rotor and the ad says *Each DBA 5000 Series Rotor is Sold 'Per Rotor'. Order Quantity 2 for Each Complete Axle*.

Also, holy shit, $312 single rotor.

Reading the full description... My wife has to deal with upset customers like this all the time where they didn't take a moment to fully grasp what they are purchasing.

OP, sounds like they're willing to work with you and wave aspects of posted store policies... I'd say they're going above and beyond to try and help but not screw themselves too due to your mistake. Kudos to vendor for that as they could just write you off!

If you're spending $4k do research on your parts. This item is roughly $300 per rotor on every site what made you think this was a pair? If something's seems too good to be true it most likely is. You can also call and email them prior to making such a large purchase I'm sure they'd be happy to help. Them waving the restocking fee for you is awesome considering this still may become a partial if not complete loss to them seeing as they don't directly stock this part it shows "ships from factory" they are allowing you to return it to them with no fees and this item may sit on their shelf (lose value) and never sell or maybe they'll return it to the vendor/manf and get hit with a fee. Either way they've done they're part. After being in customer services for a huge online retailer for a while and being a supervisor there my favorite quote has become "This isn't Burger King you can't have it your way!" Live and learn.

"2 piece rotors" is akin to "headers", but I do understand your confusion.

If you really do want the rotors, buy the matching 2nd rotor! While I would say that a 0% restocking fee could be used for extenuating circumstances, I do think they're being reasonable with you.

Just my $0.02.
