Winter tires no TPMS
Hey guys this may be a stupid question but here goes. Just ordered a winter tire package from Tire Rack and I opted for no TPMS. I can live with a light on the dash while these are installed. My question is; when I reinstall my stock tires will the car automatically recognize the sensors and the light go out? I never had a winter/summer tire set up. Always have had all season tires. Thanks

In fact if you park your car and your stock wheels with sensors are close enough (mine are in the basement) the light will stay off until you drive a certain distance. I cant remember how far the distance is, but the light will also go away when you park your car near them again - from experience. |

Yep. I have watched every time I switch. Takes about the same distance for the light to go on when the winters are installed which does not instill confidence in me on how well it works for a flat.

That's a different use case, though. It's one thing for the system to be waiting to receive data from the TPMS sensors, and eventually illuminating the light to let you know that it isn't getting data. It's another thing for it to be receiving data, and for that data to indicate a low tire pressure. I assume the latter would illuminate the light much more quickly.

Not sure about your numbers but I work 7 miles from home. I have the winter tires with no TPMS in them mounted on the car and the summers in the garage. I did not get a light yet. This is unexpected and amazing

If you're worried about it, you could leave the rear seat down and put your summer tires in the car... no lights. Of course, now you have to check two sets of tires for correct pressure in the winter..
Just kidding. Yeah, my tpms light is on all winter long. Black electrical tape, baby.

The tires I put on when I go to the track do not have TPMS. When I get about halfway there, the TPMS lights start to flash. I am about 50 miles to the track. Once I get home and pull it in the garage, the lights go off the next time I get the car out of the garage.
