I have noticed in car parks where I live there is not much variation in car colours. I actually notice when I see a colour that stands out.

My Volvo C30 was red and I worked in NYC at the time, it was usually the only car on the street that wasn't some basic color between (dirty) white and black with most being somewhere on the grey scale.

I recall reading somewhere that the mood of the nation is reflected in the colour of the new cars that we see on our roads.. lots of greys and blacks = country suffering a recession/depression... How this theory woks out when cars move into the used car market I don't know..
