Subaru factory tours?

Has anybody done or have information on doing Subaru factory tours? I was thinking of visiting Japan sometime next year and would love to see where and how our 86’s were made. My thanks if anyone can point me in the right direction as my search on the site didn’t have any results.

Or by Googling Subaru Gunma factory tour you find the answer you're looking for...

I went to Japan last summer and thought about doing the factory tour. I remember googling the travel time and it was about an hour+ subway ride away from Tokyo... From some of the reviews, the tour was good but very short(less than 30 minutes I believe). Ended up not going since it would've taken 3+ hours of our time and most of it just commuting.

Also, walking around japan is almost like a tour of subaru. So many different subaru cars i've never heard of or seen in my life time. JDM Bodykits and rims i've never seen on the internet. My biggest regret while in Japan was not visiting UP GARAGE.

I avoid japan, simply because even 3 months wouldn't be enough time for all the odd car culture there.

Subaru factory is all the way out in Gunma, far away from Tokyo. Unless you have other things planned in Gunma (geeking out at the Initial D settings or hot springs), no reason to go out so far.

An alternative would be the Mazda factory tour in Hiroshima. I think Toyota has one too in Nagoya.

Haven't seen those videos before. That's pretty cool! someone is watching their own FR-S/BRZ being built right there and not know it.

What I wanted to see was them building 86’s if it was just the run of the mill Forester, etc. then it might not be worth the trip. Having said that, there looks like castle and big natural park just north of the plants that my wife would enjoy spending time at. Long way to go to not see the birth place of my baby.

Well, there are different Subaru plants that build different cars. The Foresters are not made in the same plant as the 86/BRZ. I think this should help you out

as alternatives to a factory tour (which is precisely just that, a tour of a factory), you can consider visiting Motegi (Honda Collection Hall), or make arrangements to visit Nissan Zama Factory (Nissan Heritage Collection).

Honda is open to the public but 3 hours by train from Tokyo proper. If you drive you save about 90 minutes.

As alternatives I recommend Tokyo Megaweb and Toyota Automotive Museum in Nagoya. Megaweb currently has all kinds of interesting cars, plus racing spec 86’s. When I was there three weeks ago they were having a super special rally exhibit with all kinds of cars. Even a wrx and evo as well as some other interesting ones. Not sure if I can remember how much longer that exhibit will be there though.
