We also determined it happens when the clutch is in and rolling to a stop. Now they are asking me which injection mode the car is in ( I, II, or III) when the noise occurs. That means the SOA Engineers are asking the questions

I can imagine the engineers saying that to the dealer...dealer gets confused...engineers say "just tell the customer that, they'll understand"

Have had my car inspected by Toyota field eng and he stated that it's typical for this car and there's nothing abnormal to it. On the other hand, dealer sad that my complain has been filed and:
1. I'll be contacted if Toyota develops a fix.
2. Car will be fixed regardless of the warranty if something breaks b/c of this issue.

^^ this video is the Z making the same noise that I've heard in mine, and sounds similar to the previous video. Still trying to figure out if it's a normal noise. Some people saying this is normal for a lightweight clutch and it seems to happen in various models if you look on youtube.

Anyone know more about this chatter? I'm almost under the impression that it's normal or part of clutch break in.

My car makes this noise too and I was worried if it's normal or not because all the other MT cars that I had didn't make this noise. I also hear that this is normal for the type of clutch this car has, and I probably just didn't have any car with a lightweight clutch before. I'm not worried about it anymore, but I still feel a little bit embarrassed when this noise gets loud in the covered parking lot when I'm decelerating and people turn their heads. I can prevent the noise during acceleration if I accelerate really slowly.

the flywheel rattle happens when i throw the car into neutral and coast towards a stop. when it happens, the rpm levels will suddenly dip from 600 to 400 rpm and then rise back up to 600 and the rattle ends. the rattle is only about 1.5 seconds in length but it is annoying.

so is this really just a "normal" thing? or should be something of concern? does the DI affect RPM levels like that? sorry, i'm not too knowledgeable about car details and all it's parts/functions.

I noticed your rpm's drop right when it made that sound, then go back up a bit to proper idle. You might be a future candidate for the CEL/idle dip issue.

Aha, the post right above mine says the same.

Reviving thread.

I have the exact same noise as in the video, but rpm do not dip. The noise only occurs in neutral and usually when braking. Also, the noise is random; does not occur even when I try to replicate the situation (rpm, braking, vehicle speed, etc) in which I heard it previously.

There has to be a way to get rid of that noise.

hmm ive been reading this flywheel clutch chatter, and after reading all the effects that occur it almost sounds exactly how my E36 M3 does when i was driving at around 60 on the hwy, then came to a red light through it into neutral it like dips rpm makes a light chattery sound then goes away only when i am driving at like 50+ then come to a stop it might just be idle air control adjusting going from a higher rpm then suddenly going right down to idle speed. idk i worked at a euro performance shop and most bmws and mercedes ive driven kinda do that but this is all speculation.

hope this might help ease minds.

My car makes this exact sound, but only when the AC compressor is on. The car has made it since it was a week old but I can't reproduce it when the compressor is not running. Has anyone else diagnosed it similarly?

I've noticed this sound. Good to know that's it's normal for this clutch and should lessen/go away.
