$34k 2013 370z = rip off
$31k 2014 370z = deal
Many ways to go around this...

Price cut (price protection) on current generation
MSRP stays the same but high "factory rebate" to even out cost
etc

I don't get why you're complaining about a ripoff price. Dealers sell based on their current inventory cost, not on future model year's suggested price.

If a buyer doesn't want it, they won't buy it at that price.

As for current 370Z owners:
It's akin to what I deal with on a regular basis, new product launch. You have no idea what is coming up...

Example would be:
Buyer buys new computer with Intel 3rd Gen Core i7-3770 processor in mid-May. There's rumors that there's a new product coming out, but no definite timeframe or info on pricing.

New CPU launches 6/2, and your "new" CPU is suddenly obsolete at the price point you purchased at.

Cry foul? A ripoff?

Buyers buy (at the time of purchase) based on their needs and the info available on the market. The smart buyers keep up with industry trends and news.

As for price cuts, while it may seem like a ripoff, it's certainly not unfair to existing owners. It's like someone buying an iPhone and then realizing the price got cut with a new model introduction. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

The only thing I miss about the Z is its looks. That's it. Even though it has a slightly shorter wheelbase than the FR-S, it felt like a big, heavy car. The FR-S shrinks as you drive it harder. I've only had mine for less than two months, but I can honestly say I'm having more FUN. Isn't that the point?
You're telling me that you don't miss the Z's 132 extra hp?!? Saying that makes me feel like the FRS is the right car for you.

On the flip side, I would definitely miss all that power...and I prefer the looks of the FRS/BRZ (370Z looks better than 350Z, but still has a chunky look to it).

I think what a lot of people are looking for is the car in between the FR-S and 370z. Keep it FR layout, coupe/hardtop. A little weight gain is fine, perhaps 2900 lbs. With 280 NA hp. Torsen or clutch-type LSD. Price it at $32k.

If the new 240sx hit those targets, I bet it would steal a lot of sales from current/future Twin, Miata, and GC owners.

QUOTE] Okay, I'd be lying if I said I didn't. However, having driven both, I'll take the lighter car with less power, so this definitely is the car for me. Just like all the reviews stated when this car first came out, it's the ability to approach the handling limits at reasonable speeds that makes the FR-S so fun. With the Z, you had to be going a lot faster for the same enjoyment. And since I'm not in the running to be the next Stig, I'd prefer the much more accessible performance of the FR-S.

There's a great Drive video on Youtube where Chris Harris compares the GT86 to the 370Z and the Cayman S, which was the performance bogey when the Z was being developed. I think his assessment is spot on.

I agree with everything you said, except the part that you say I'm complaining. I don't own 2013 370Z, so it doesn't affect me at all. I have nothing to complain about. I'm just stating my opinion that if there are 2 same cars, one for $31k and another for $34k, the one for $34k is a rip off compared to another with $31k.

THIS^! I want just about everything in between. It can weigh a bit more, be a bit more luxurious (aka Premium Trim, etc.), have 18"s stock, 250+hp, for $31k. I think it would sell very well to say the least!

I also wouldn't mind a tuner version like they've done with the Tc in the past I believe, with steelies, etc.

I digress, but you honestly proved one of my points with only two words.

This is also one of the reasons I would dread leaving me Acura dealership to go to a Scion one...

Well you asking a bunch of FRS/BRZ guys about how everyone should consider the Z because it's a "deal" now. It's a 5 year old platform and basically they made all their money off the "mid-life crisis mom","boy racers guidos". Of course it's going to be cheaper.

So go off and switch the the Z... you obviously don't understand the reason the twins were created.

Good luck, Chuck. The $5K between a Z and a BRZ Limited isn't enough money for there not to be children...so enjoy that VQ powuhhhh.

I'll see you on the streets homie.

I do believe I understand. I run SCCA locally and also track at the Autobahn (IL), Gingerman, and Road America. I have an intake and ECU while the rest of my modifications are all suspension (coils, volks, zII's, mugen sways, ties, etc.). To me that sounds like one that cares about driving, no?

Tracking your fuel like you drive a Prius and only listing cosmetic mods of light, tint, and hold back, a debadge really sounds like the way the twins were meant to be represented, right? Your first mod should have been to remove the Prius tires and put on some real summer performance tires. Maybe some Robispec KW v3's next would be a good start...

I also do recognize it's a 5 year platform. I also recognize performance numbers. The Supra is 2 decades old and it's still brought up in conversations. Age is irrelevant in this case.

Perhaps, but with the touring Z's it does get a bit greater. Neither of these are Cayman or anything as we all know.
