I was also about to preorder the BRZ from Subaru of Las Vegas. The internet representative said the same exact thing, $2500 safety deposit and a $2500 fair market premium (markup) added to the MSRP. I didn't mind at first, but after reading this thread, it made reconsider my decision. I decided not to preorder from them because I'm not willing to do business (especially with this amount of money involved) with a dealership that goes back on their word.

Good for you, I'm glad you're joining the boycott against such poor business practices, if we support the dealerships that treat other people this way we're telling them it's okay. I'm glad you did what was right and hope you're able to get in an order with another less sketchy dealership.

Even if you're the only person that does this than this thread has been worth it.

Markham Subaru, Ontario, Canada:
Thank you for your email. Pre-order has started weeks ago and we have some orders already. As for the terms, since this is a limited production vehicle we only have 7 cars this year and will be on first come first serve bases. The deposit will be $1000 and not refundable.

Please feel free to contact us for details.

Regards
Nicholas Chan
Sales department
----

Other dealers from the GTA region I have contacted in Ontario are refundable. As they should be without an MSRP announced.

Try Mark Miller in Salt Lake City. I haven't heard that they are marking them up at least not from the guy I talked to. Let me know if you need the guy I spoke with.

This is about what I expected. We're not dealing with Cadillac or BMW here.

I recently contacted Subaru of Las Vegas about the BRZ, and got the same $2500 fair market premium quote. However, this time they have added an additional "Subaru of Las Vegas' Assurance" package of $1185 which includes 2yrs/24000 Carefree maintenance, PULSE, a safer braking technology, window tint and lifetime oil changes. This is a requirement as well. Here is the email I received:

Hello;
My name is Andrew Berney. I am an Internet Representative with Subaru of Las Vegas. We are now pre selling the 2013 BRZ. There are only 21 of them available to our dealership this year.We have already taken several orders. Prices will run approx. $27,000 to $30,000. They are available in either a premium or a limited model. They are equipped with a 6speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission. If you order one now it will be here in around 90 days or so. It would require a $2500 refundable deposit with a first right of refusal. Pricing will include a fair market premium of $2500 plus our Subaru of Las Vegas' Assurance package of $1185 which includes 2yrs/24000 Carfree maintenance, PULSE, a safer braking technology, window tint and lifetime oil changes. We will be unable to offer any discounts on these items. If you would like to order one I would need you to come in and see me. I will go over everything with you. We are open Monday through Saturday 8am until 8pm, closed on Sundays. Please call me at 702-495-2104. If you could let me know in advance when you can make it that would be great. I look forward to helping you. The BRZ is an exciting car!
So according to this, the base BRZ at Subaru of Las Vegas will cost $27,000 + $2500 + 1185 = $30,685. $33,685 for the upgraded model. They are of course guessing at the initial price.. but no matter what the MSRP is, an extra $3685 is outrageous.

That is so over the top it's comical.

You must buy thier ASS-insurance......
People who buy from them are certianly going to need it.

I hope this forum gets the word out about Subaru of Las Vegas. Hope no one on here deals with them and instead goes to UT or AZ to get their BRZ. They are completely out of touch with reality.

I think a dealer markup thread is in order. That is just insane, and I hope not a single person purchases a car from them.

Isn't SoLV the dealership that tried to make an account and defend their position?

Bait and switch, mark up, and an additional "assurance" package?! This dealership is a joke! I hope nobody here gives them any business and for those who do, you are a:

I believe it's the product that makes your 3rd brake light flash or pulsate when you apply the brakes.

http://www.pulseprotects.com/

From their FAQ section:

Quote:
Is Pulse™ expensive?
Pulse™ hardly costs more than a set of after market floor mats or window tint for your new or used car. The benefit, though, of being able to help protect you and your family from rear end collision is immeasurable. How can you afford not to have Pulse™?
