Not really even sure how that concept seems to be so strange to people.

The sad part to me is that people seem to miss that you not only got the car but managed to do it without being ostracized by your family and friends. Or at least I hope you were not because then the car would have indeed been a bad move.

Things have been far more heated over much more important topics such as what gas to use or tire pressure.

My mother on the hand was not impressed, however the next day she realize it happened, and there is pretty much no point to be unhappy any longer. At the same time i think she realize that regardless what she say in terms of negative things about the car she realizes It will be hard to change my mind. At the very same, she also realize that as long as i can support it myself, not ask her for money or help it won't impact her life all that much. Most of my friends after seeing the car realize it was a good decision. Although many of them did say they rather have an automatic due heavy traffic in a populated urban city (these guys know how to drive manual). It was pretty ironic because the first night i drove it back home from Alberta all of them gathered at my house to look at the car. I guess it was exciting to see. I think one person said, you should've waited because they heard that Subaru next year is going to come out with a turbo STI version (dead srs). I lol'd. For me, i finally have gotten the handle of the manual car. I'm not going to lie, in the beginning i felt like what did i get myself into (stalling in public roads, and rolling back on hills), but i stuck to it. Now, i finally understood why a manual for car like this is truly the best option in my opinion for this car. Unbelievably fun to drive around, it feels like a different car when you can control the power and car. For those on the fence of getting this car, and contemplating the transmission definitely try out the manual. Although the automatic has its place, since i came from one, but my word of advice is don't knock the other without trying both. (Like me) Finally, its never too late to learn a new skill, and unlock a whole new world. I've learned many things about myself, my family, and peers. I think its important to listen to your peers, and family, however don't be afraid to make decisions based on your inner compass. It might be dramatic for some, but If it wasn't for this thread, and the supportive comments i received being alone on my decision to get this car. I would probably settled for an luxury compact SUV, or sedan, leave it stock and probably leave the car scene only to realize i should've bought the BRZ and not let criticism define you when you already know what you want. Glad you got the car!
I'm also 26 and had a similar experience with pretty much the same result... the naysayers all want rides now and tell me its awesome. Mom still thinks it's "too fast" but she gets a bit wild herself when driving my dad's Z4 so... I couldn't be happier... getting up for work every day sucks a bit less because I know I get to drive Not sure where you are in BC, but maybe we will see eachother out there some time. Happy driving! |
