Are taiwanese/Chinese big brakes a good idea?
Ideally for my application I would like to have brembo/ endless/ project mu etc something but my car but it doesn't seem there is a application for the prius.
I originally was gonna go with R1 concepts BBK made in taiwan. (cost of it was about 2200 for a 6 pot /356mm drilled rotor/ss line etc. I figure well if I'm gonna go china /taiwan brakes there quality can't be too diff from the other. From my understanding alot of these brakes all come from the same factory with their own company logo and mark up. There's a company called PB brakes (Phat boy brakes in taiwan) where I could get a similar set up for about 1150 shipped from taiwan. PB can be had w/ out the logo's on the caliper Thoughts? |

Honestly just buy bbk covers. You drive a Prius, who you trying to fool?
Joking aside, I'll be a tad bit worried if these are castings. If they are machined I'll trust it a bit more. I'll pay a bit extra for the extended warranty if they offer it.

It's all for the bling! Lol a caliper cover wouldn't have the nice looking large 2 peice rotor and nice caliper. I have the same wheel on my car and it looks amazing behind them
I imagine they are cast tho not forged like you said. |

2200 is same price as ap racing isn't it. Brembo is more but its brembos yo, lol
BBK is a big purchase, I'd save the extra cash for the one you really want I was very happy with AP racing Sprint

BBK on Prius? Which is to save money on fuel, will never be tracked, and trying to bling it out will make one look poser. Next will be questions regarding BBKs/flush fitment/hella-camber for eighteenwheelers.

It's the same mentality that make people buy $300+ Nikes. It's still the exact $70 shoe with more "limited" colors. But whatever. Just point and laugh. We don't get it. They also point and laugh at us.

And now I just realized this thread is about a Prius. In any case big brakes look cool on any car IMO

The amount of rotor runout (axial and lateral) and measurable caliper flex I saw on a low end BBK was insane. I would never run them on my personal car for any reason (and would not sell them to anyone).
It was shiny and had 6 pistons though! - Andrew |

No this is not even remotely true. Not even a little. Not at all. You will get what you pay for. End of story.

If you are going for the bling factor of having a cool BBK; Don't fake it and get a generic looking kit.
People will ask "are those brembos?" And you will have to say, "nah I saved a few pennies and got Chinese parts." That story sucks.
