Single-Exit Exhaust Diffuser/Hole Problem... Solution!
Just chop that fool off.
It's a common complaint in regards to single-exits exhausts that they leave an unoccupied hole in the factory """diffuser.""" It's also pretty common knowledge that the factory muffler serves as a diffuser, so any sort of aftermarket exhaust that doesn't have a replacement for that large wide surface at that exact height creates a problem: the factory rear bumper cover basically becomes a parachute when the factory muffler is removed. I actually did this on December 2nd, 2013, but I was waiting to get my control arms on and take some good pictures before posting it up on the forums. I'm not the first to do this, but except for show cars and super serious race cars with custom subframes and stuff, I still haven't seen anyone else do this. It wasn't easy chopping up a body panel from my new car, but I've been loving it ever since. Haven't regretted it in the least bit. Pros: 1. Eliminates the parachute effect 2. Solves the "two hole" problem for single-exits 3. Saves 3.488lbs 4. Looks reel tuff! Cons: 1. There's no going back 2. People will be really confused about it and question your tactics/sanity 3. I'm not sure anyone has ever actually wind tested to see if the bumper cover does create a parachute effect. It could actually be like the bed of a truck where the air kind of just rolls across the air in the bed, but... it looks like a parachute, and that was enough for me.

This is called "The Anthony Mod," by the way. My friend who helps me with all my more involved mechanical work named it that and was real adamant about making sure everyone else calls it that haha. So now I've done my part in regards to that.

Thanks! I'm really surprised about how many people have told me they do. I actually haven't been flamed once. A few people said they didn't like it, then weeks later went out of their way to tell me they changed their minds. I guess it's one of those things that can grow on you.

It looks great! I wouldn't do it myself as I don't have any bright or shiny parts back there and because here in Melbourne Australia I doubt I could drive ten meters like that without a cop pulling me over.

At first I didn't either. I just had the exhaust. Those control arms were on backorder for like 3 months, so I've been waiting and waiting and waiting to install them, take pictures, and then unveil the mod to the forums. It still looked really good without the colors, I thought. And I still did it for function over fashion anyway. But yes, it definitely helps to have some color under there.

Wouldn't completely removing the stock rear diffuser/bumper piece be just as bad/worse for the aero than having a hole in the exhaust area?
If it does, do you have any plans of upgrading to a different rear diffuser/bumper piece? I'd love to go single exit and replace that entire piece with something that looks better and provides superior area, but I'm not sure what's all on the market. I know that there are tons of rear diffusers available, but all I've seen is just the diffusers, not the entire back piece...

This is a mod that not everyone can pull off. I think the Tomei and your suspension upgrades made it not look "cheap". Plus the fact that you stuck your goal of shedding weight, this just made it that much better. I like this a lot. But if I did this to my car, I would look like an idiot. Lol.
