software engineer... mostly backend web stuff, ruby on rails, ios. i started out after high school working on motorcycles, then moved onto solid modeling/fea/prototyping stuff at a company that built police cars, then eventually wanted to work from home and started coding full time. of course lots of shitty jobs in between lol.

I am going turbo and want to figure out which setup would work best for my intended application. Looking mostly for DD midrange power that can handle the occasional track/autoX day. Not too worried about maximum HP figures. just want a responsive turbo that will make the car more enjoyable everyday when I want it. My choices are:

-GT2876R .82AR
-GT3071R .63AR

I see the GTX2867 mentioned but not the GT2876R. Please enlighten me.

After looking at the Garrett website it looks like the gt2876 provides a tad more up top? If only there was a gtx2876r then that would probably be my choice. Maybe someone with a little more experience can chime in @nelsmar or @jamesm. I'm still a little undecided but I'm taking a second look at the gtx3071r .63.

They are the same in terms of speed. But heat is always the enemy. granted turbos work well under heat, but there is a hair thin line of what is acceptable and what is not in terms of how hot the IAT's are getting.

Whats heavier: one ton of fuel or one ton of water?

Way to dredge up and old conversation. Neither of you ever heard of torque? Seen the effect of a broad powerband vs a narrow one in a race?

C'mon enough bickering. How about we do something useful and answer legitimate questions.

Do you mean the GT2876R? People commonly mistype 76 & 67. The GT2876R is a non billet last generation turbo. The GTX2867R is a newer compressor. The GT2876 has a slight higher CFM output from its size. But it will have higher EGT and you would be more beneficial with say a GTX3071 for high end. The GTX2867R is smaller and flows pretty close to the same as the GT2876 with a smaller lighter compressor that should respond faster. The GTX2867R basically replaces the 71/76.
