As with all internet automobile rumors, it means nothing until Toyota confirms it themselves.
That said, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for the MR2 to come back with a boxer 4. |

Right? I have already made plans to get one. I believe. Unless of course... we see a next gen S2000.

Yeah the MR2 fan boys in the FB group are creaming their pants about this.
The last I heard was it going to have all wheel drive, hybrid STI motor and over 300hp. All for about 30k.

oh I just noticed theres a new rumor cropped up....
Subaru + Toyota will join forces for a new MR2 with 300hp.... by 2021. https://www.grandtournation.com/cars...2-with-300bhp/ seems a bit ridiculous. No one really knows anything about whats happening with Toyota's sports car plans after the Supra. |

Do they not know what the "FR" part of S-FR means? Even the S-FR appears to have been totally abandoned for 2 years now.

Such a shame...I'd be first in line with my cash in hand.

Clearly it's a joint development with Chevy and a shared platform with the new C8 Corvette due to hit showrooms next week in time for Christmas, but it will get the turbo 4-cylinder from the BMW Z4 because putting that engine in a Supra is ridiculous but Toyota already paid for them and Chevy doesn't want Toyota stealing it's Corvette sales so it'll be positioned under the Corvette and Supra and Z4 and 86 and BRZ right around $15,999.
The only way this fails is if Honda sticks an F20C in the S660 and calls it an S2000 which won't happen until 2021 when the 86 gets a Turbo and everyone takes another step upmarket. |

At this point it's just a big rumor mill with the majority of the speculation going towards another Subaru\Toyota collaboration. Very doubtful they'd give it 300 hp. Too close to the Supra.

I always thought Toyota could just get Daihatsu to make something small for them.
Unless all the Daihatsu cars are just too damn small for any market outside of Japan. |

Who would ever want an MR2? Those things are terrible. Anyone here that owns one, once you admit how terrible they are, send me a price. I need scrap metal.

Fun Fact: The S-FR was originally rumoured to be a collaboration with Mazda so I am not really clear where or when Subaru even got brought into the mix. The concept S-FR that was shown would probably just twist into a pile of scrap metal with a 300hp engine anyway.
