Temp removal of pass seat (airbag light)

I am about to foster a large breed dog, and will need to be able to transport him around from time to time. Unfortunately, the FRS is my only car, and the dog doesn't fit inside on the front seat.

If I were to unbolt my passenger seat, and run the car periodically with no passenger seat, I realize I will get an airbag light while it's out. What I'm wondering is, when I reinstall the seat, does the light go out on its own? Or would I need to follow up each "seat removal" with a trip to the dealer to have the SRS module reset?

Thanks!

Mike

Sorry, I don't have an answer for your question because this is all I can think about right now!

The airbag module should recognize when the seat is back in place.

Betcha if you put the back seats down, opened up the trunk and tossed a treat in there, he would jump in and lay down -

its probably still going to have a light that will need to be cleared, best bet is to buy a cheap scanner that has srs capabilities.

If you buy an OBD-II ELM 327 and also buy the carista app on any smartphone, you can disable the airbag light before the seat removal. When you reinstall the seat you re-enable it and you should be fine.

It's also able to be done through techstream easily if you have a usb-ob2 cable compatible with techstream.

Also it's honestly worth it getting a bluetooth OBD-II dongle and some obd2 app on your phone with it at this point, it's kind of indispensable at this point in the automotive world if you ever want to fix things yourself.

I have removed the passenger seat in my FR-S to haul a toolbox, and also lumber.
So i've done it twice at least.

While driving without the seat, the light is on and the car beeps at me.

After reinstalling it, the light turns off and everything seems fine.

I have not "tested" it by crashing my car and seeing if the seat airbags work.
