These 2 cars I was tossing up between. Opted for gt86. Only for the fact I have an ae86 and aftermarket parts availabilty.

And its been well documented that the 86 is set up for understeer ie softer front springs than that of the brz.
Um, softer springs in the front means more grip and thus oversteer.

I guess they do not take off points for styling. The Clio is butt ugly.

While this might be an interesting comparison for folks abroad, it's completely useless for us here in the US for two reasons-

1) We can't get a Clio RS
2) The GT-86 as tested is less capable than the FR-S.

Haha yeah also helps sell magazines by being controversial, I would imagine.
In the UAE, the base 86 does come with an LSD, and so does the car in the article.

I should know, I had the first one sold in the country!

As for the article well, as someone said earlier controversy sells magazines. Besides out here, the average 'enthusiast' car sports at least 300+ bhp, so it's hard for journalists to get used to anything less.

Strange, on the Toyota UAE website, LSD is only listed starting from the "Mid AT" trim (see link below). Given that you actually have the car though, I'll trust you know what you're talking about! My mistake

IIRC, the base GT auto does not have the LSD, but the base GT manual does.

the end of the article is hilarous because the author writes that this dude Phil McGovern basically tells them "you dont get it" --- and from browsing the forums it seems like some people "dont get it" either

That website is quite messed up sometimes - now it's showing the base car as having an LSD. Don't know who'd be angling for a cloth base car with an automatic, but hey it takes all sorts...

Most amusing part of the article is how after approximately six paragraphs of slating the car, they ask to have it as a long termer! Talk about tongue in concrete cheek...

If you're curious to know what it's like buying a car in the UAE, I wrote a pretty detailed diary on buying my car.

I like your writing style in that diary, Giado, humorous and well written!

I'm actually in the same situation you were in. I drove a FR-S AT (TRD springs, exhaust, etc.) at a First Drive event, but haven't driven a stock MT yet. I hope I'm as happy with my purchase as you seem to be with your's. :happy0180:

I'm pretty sure it has more roll because it's on 16-inch wheels with thick sidewalls. Again, not an ideal/fair/complete comparison IMO. Apparently, they are bound and determined to not give it an accurate comparison with the Clio. But even if they said the same about the top GT86 model with the 17-inch wheels, it doesn't matter because 1) the Clio isn't sold in the US, 2) the Clio is FWD and can't drift, and 3) the Clio is ugly.

Thanks. I swear when I tried it, LSD only showed up under Mid AT (and under the Interior for some reason)!!

EDIT:

Proof!! Haha, their website must have some errors...
