Very good review. Nice to share also details about the early development years. I guess Mr. Diess wanted to get some hybrid or electric car technology from Toyota and was not interested that much building a new sports car. Now that the Supra will start selling let's see what will be next with the 86/BRZ platform

I like the Supra's proportions over the 86, and the general higher quality, but the 86 is less bubbly, so I like the look of the 86 too. If the 86 was a two seater with a longer hood, slightly more refined/quality build and more mid engine then I would easily prefer it over the Supra. I will always purchase a manual sports car over an auto, and if it ever came as a 4cylinder, but that was the only configuration that had a manual then I would buy the 4cylinder to get the manual. This pretty much eliminates the Supra as a future car for me. For that price, even used, I am not about to retrofit some manual transmission in there.

Can someone photoshop the 86 with the proportions of the Supra or Miata?

Really love the exhaust note on this car. Don't care for the interior but I rather enjoy the exterior from most angles. I can even forgive the no MT but I sadly can not afford this card nor would I spend that much ever on a car. Plenty of great cars to be had at much cheaper prices. But lets see real owner reviews and what happens in the next 2-3 years. Do we know what their target volume is of units per year?

Low volume for sure,
I could be wrong but I read somewhere that only 150 units are making their way to Canada? And the last time I was at a Toyota dealership it seems like there wont be a "demo" or "showroom car" for awhile as allocations may have already been sold.

Iirc, 90 for JP, 900 for UK (and Europe?), 150 for CA, and 1500 for US. Not 100% on all the numbers, but I think that's close.

I was looking at previous Cayman and Z4 sales numbers not too long ago, already posted them in this thread a few pages back, 2k-3k units per year is probably a good average over the next 4-5 years. There's tons of hype and it's a little car with good power and great reviews, if they can get them on the lots I bet ~4k units next year and like the FRZ it'll tail down for the next 4 years.

Get ready for the 'Supra is a failure <2k units sold in 2019!' articles.

That seems low. I thought they were going to be 1,500 Launch Edition ones in itself, or is that what you are referring to?

Ya those would be the release version numbers. Don't think they have or will give the annual production numbers.

Yah, that's what I ment. Sales numbers. Not sure what the production numbers will be once they ramp up.
