They don’t bother repackaging it now. They sell it in the Castrol packaging with an OEM label. Last edited by monkeybike; 07-06-2018 at 10:06 PM. |

Have been using Mobil 1 with OEM oil filter since first oil change. Mostly DD, and a couple of track days. Stock except for catback, k&n drop in and Perrin tube. Great deal on a box of 6 quarts at Costco when its on sale.

Where did you read this? Looking simply at the physical properties of all 0w20 Mobil 1 oils vs toyota's genuine motor oil, they are worlds different. Yes, TGMO is manufactured by ExxonMobil .. but the oil looks quite different form mobil1 products. I was told a couple years ago that Toyota Synthetic 0w20 oil was made by Mobil One. That was at the Toyota parts dept by a well seasoned sales rep. Granted maybe not the most reliable source but I knew the same mafacturer was involved. I imagine Toyota adds a a few of their own additives to make it smeowhat unique. I'm not sure what your showing with all those values at the bottom. I need an analays from the same car with m1 and then wth Toyota brand so we can see what your talking about. The stats alone don't illustrate anything. So yeah I expect some differences but how great is the question. |

Yeah the sales rep knew that the manufacturer was MobilExxon, but just because the manufacturer makes something for a different company does not mean they are the same products. Those are not stats, those are the physical properties provided on the TGMO's MSDS forms. You can compare them to all of the Mobil1 oils and they are Vastly different. Significant difference. Mobil1 oil is more similar to penzoil and castrol in terms of the physical properties. If you knew some chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry, you would understand that having such a difference in the physical properties is evidence that the products are significantly different. This is coming from a MS in chemotherapeutic drug design and synthesis with a BS in chemistry and currently working on his PharmD. Yes different fields, but similar enough basic utilization of chemistry knowledge to understand the stark differences between the products.

Could you please link to where I can compare the oils, I can't seem to find what site has the data to compare? Are these properties from someone's used oil analasys or an analysis based on fresh oil? I'm curious and want to see the differences. |

Candidate Dr. to be correct. I don't want to falsely take a title. Fresh oils. MSDS are required standardized documentation regarding chemical and physical properties, hazard control, waste directions, safety direction, etc. For the Mobil1 Oils just look on their website, they list the physical properties → https://mobiloil.com/en/viscosity/0w-20 The TGMO 0W20 MSDS can be found online, see section 9 for physical and chemical properties. https://physics.usc.edu/Undergraduat...0005160165.pdf http://sgnauto.com/products/oil_and_...and_oem/toyota And no, I don't think Mobil1 will do damage to your engines. I just don't use them as a preference.

But take a look at the differences in the metallic additive packs. I’ll take the higher boron and moly in the TGMO. But are these differences enough to say that one oil is better than the other in an 86 over 100k or 200k miles? Probably not. |
