Replacing headers in NorCal?

So I've been looking and was thinking about replacing the stock header with this:

https://www.86speed.com/products/jdl...th-header.html

My question is, will me car not pass smog if I do?

No it will not pass smog. Replacing the OEM header with anything else will not pass.

How difficult would it be to swap them?

My car is relatively new, 2016 with 17k miles.

Yeah, that's the drawback for me too. I'm planning to get Tomei uncatted instead. We have two cats, so you don't have to worry about the smell. Once you do the Smog Check, just slap back the OEM on. It's a hassle, but you only gotta do it once every 2 years.

It shouldn't. It's a Catback. I got ARK Grip Catback. Yours is resonated too, so yours isn't that loud.

It's not particularly hard but you will have to get under your car. It will help a lot if you have a lift. If you're lazy like me you can get a shop like Elite Performance or The Racer's Line or Mann Engineering to do it for you.

You actually get 6 years the first time after purchase of the car new. So for a 2013 you have 2 more years to go, for a 2016 you have 5 more years before a smog is required.

Just to make sure tho. Since we have two cats, there wouldn't be an obvious smell if I change my headers right? Like it would pass the Smell test?

I was told by my friends that it should be fine, but some said it might be worrisome...

I have a catless header, and the car smells funny on start up. It goes away once the second cat warms up though.

The only time I smell anything is before I pull out of my garage after being parked all night.

it doesn't matter since for 2000+ model years there is no sniffer test. The CA smog inspection for newer cars has two components. (1) the computer OBD2 check and (2) the visual inspection. The reason why you fail with a header is the visual inspection. Any reasonably alert smog tech will be able to tell that your header is not OEM.

Being from AZ, I just can't stand CARB. What does a "visual" inspection tell anyone other than you don't have OEM parts? It should depend on a sniffer and/or the OBDII test, at most. If the sniffer doesn't go off, and the computer doesn't show anything weird, what's the difference?
