A friend of mine bought these wheels from Hirano Tire in Japan for 184,475 yen, which was $1,883 on April 16, 2013. He shipped them on May 13 via JapanPost Express Mail Service for $450, and they arrived in Houston on May 21. So the total was $583 per wheel, but I also spent a LOT of research time to make sure I was getting the correct wheels and import paperwork. I was especially cautious after hearing about problems with Customs, like shipments being detained and then auctioned for export! At times it felt like a $2K gamble, but it paid off for me. I had been dreaming about these wheels for months, and they still exceeded my expectations. I realize many people would think it's crazy to spend that much money and effort on wheels, particularly ones so close to the stock size and offset. But after 1.5 years with these wheels, I still feel like they were worth every penny. I think they really transform the car without looking like some wild aftermarket wheels. |

1. I really respect the engineering that went into these cars and prefer to stay close to the stock design. 2. I didn't think I would gain much with a wider tire, and I actually enjoy a little less grip sometimes, particularly since this car does not make a ton of power. 3. I was reluctant to change the rolling radius even though it might be an insignificant difference. 4. I have a long commute and did not want to hurt fuel efficiency, although that might be insignificant too. |

Though the wheel hub is missing in the drawing so I'm not sure if it is useful at all. Your help is appreciated though! |

$2k/set is actually a fantastic deal for ridiculously light, forged wheels, esp. from a company like BBS that's known to have wheels that start upwards of $1000 each.

I lost my chance at getting these, but they still have to be some of the best wheels you could pick up for this car.

I measured 1.5 inches at the closest point, as shown in this photo. Is that what you meant? I would be glad to take another measurement for you as needed!

Thanks BRZebra for the detailed posts!
Nengun sells them in 17x7 +48mm which isn't ideal for most people, but I actually like that size since it is the OEM size, and therefore legal for SCCA Street classes for autox. The most popular autox wheel for street class seems to be the Enkei RPF1, which is 17x7+42 (the minimum offset allowed). The Enkei RPF1 is 14.8 lbs, the BBS RF is listed at 14.3 lbs (and may be lighter). I created an account on Nengun to see what shipping was for 4 BBS RFs shipped to Iowa: Shipping is less than I expected. I don't know if that includes insurance or not. Edit: Looks like FedEx and EMS do include insurance, according to Nengun's shipping FAQ. However, import taxes/duties are unknown. I'm still thinking about getting these wheels. They are about 2x as much as the Enkeis, but they are forged, weigh less, look better (imo), and are rare/interesting. Last edited by C4RBON; 07-12-2015 at 02:02 PM. Reason: Added shipping insurance info |
