Open Flash Tablet Error Messages

@Shiv@Openflash

Just got my Open Flash Tablet, but am getting a series of error messages from OpenFlash Manager.

OFT Info
- Sn: E00401007E9407F8
- Cd: P9029
- HW Ver: 100
- Fw Ver: 129

Laptop Info
- OS: Win 7

ECU Info
- ECU Type: DENSO GT86
- CAL: ZA1JB01C

1) When I first fire up OpenFlash Manager and it's connecting to the device, once it gets to Device identified, I get the message "Error generated by application". When I hit OK, it gets to Verifying last version, then I get the same error message again.

2) During this load-up screen, I noticed it never connects to the internet or downloads the latest maps.

3) Once in Open Flash Manager, if I click on Download Data, I get the message "Error generated by application". It then re-starts the process. After a minute of that, I get the same error, and the process re-starts again. After another minute of that, I get the same error and the process re-starts. After the third attempt, the status bar on the bottom reads "Error 0x00 while communicating with the device", but I can see values for the Original File and 5 modified files have been filled in.

4) When I then try to save the stock ECU File, I get a window titled Cktrl, and it has the message "C:\OpenFlash\DLL\DEV121.DLL". When I hit OK, I get another window titled Cktrl and it has the message "1". When I hit OK, I get a window titled OpenFlash Manager and it states "The checksum of Original ECU Tune is wrong".

Does anyone know why I'm getting all these error messages? Thanks.

Do you have OFT connected to laptop and car at same time ??

The last error message "Checksum of original tune is wrong" does not sound good.

did the OFT read the "stock" tune ok, ??

As its an Ecutek stock tune the OFT will not auto- generate tune files from the pre-loaded database as ecutek stock tunes are not actually stock they have your Ecutec licience info embedded in them.

The OFT will not auto-load the latest maps you have to download and install them via openflash manager. However you will need to delete the current tunes before you can install the new ones.

are you using the latest OFM software from the openflash downloads site ??

are you logged in as administrator ??

have a read of the OFT TIPS thread below

I am getting the same error. It seems there is a problem with OFT update servers.

Ah ok no worries. Hopefully Shiv will chime in with a solution.

I'm holding off on writing any tunes to the car, so no damage done yet.

Have you tried uninstalling OFM, download a fresh copy, and installing again to rule out any issues with the software download or installation?

I tried downloading and installing OFM on my wife's laptop, and got the same exact issues.

Sorry guys, there is a new version of OFM. I'll get it posted up for download today. But the error does look like it is from a server problem on our side. I'm sure it will be resolved by tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!

Just a quick update on this. As mentioned, the problem must have been on the server-side because Open Flash Manager worked perfectly yesterday. Thanks Shiv!

One other question. It takes quite a bit of force to pull the OBDII cable off the car (and the OBDII plug on the car is flimsy). Is there a tab on the cable I should be pushing to disconnect it, or do I just pull it off?

If you look at the connector you'll see there is a tab, but you can't really push it or anything as it's just a metal spring clip. I was concerned about constantly connecting/disconnecting from the port that it would cause problems so I purchased a right angle extension OBDII cable and leave it connected all the time. That way, only the extension cable can be damaged over time and can easily be replaced.

Yeah I saw the metal tab on the connector, but it didn't look like it was doing anything or holding the cable in place. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

The extension OBDII cable sounds like a good idea, will look into that. Thanks!

I am also having a few issues.

I bought this second hand and it has been unmarried. when I plug it in to my PC it goes through the "searching for updates". It comes to a point when it says it has found a new software version and says press Okay to start install.

It does this at the same point every time and when I press okay, it starts the whole process again.

Fw Ver: 128

I have not yet plugged it into my car as I wanted to make sure I have the latest updates for it before I did.

Any reason this is doing this?

Cheers, Jeff

Easiest thing to do would be to download OpenFlash Manageer 1.10.4 from our website (Downloads) and run that file. It will update your version of OF Manager which should solve the issue you are having. The current version of firmware is 129.
