PSS vs Stock Primacy HP questions

I was hoping you guy could help me with some questions:

How does road noise compare between the two?

How well do PSS work when it's the 40s and wet? I am really not happy with the stock tires performance in theses conditions.

Have you looked at tire sites like Tirerack.com? They have hundreds of reviews on tires.

road noise is about the same. comfort is about the same. wet grip is astounding even just driving on the freeway and avoiding hydroplaning. in terms of 40 degrees driving, have never had an issue but i wouldn't be doing anything crazy with them at those temps.

ps you might want to look at the newly released ps4s instead of the mpss.

Yes tirerack has a reviews specific to the the twins but I couldn't find info road noise so I asking here since PPS are pretty popular here on the boards.

If you pay more than $130 for PSS you are getting rip off.
There are better tires than PSS both in price and performance. There is no reason to stick to one brand.

I'd suggest taking a look at Pilot Sport AS3+ (or comparables). Slightly more dry grip than stock (not in the MPSS territory), better wet grip, quieter and an all-season compound that'll handle low temps just fine (I'm assuming you're talking 40F, not 40C)

I have a set a blizzaks for the snow, the problem those aren't exactly great for 45F and raining either. PSS was more a starting point for my tire search, thanks for the recommendations.

Due to the ridiculous grasp of winter here in Chicago, I've been driving on my MPSS in 30 degree weather here for the last week. Last night I got into my car to leave a friends house and the windshield had balls of sleet on it (air temperature was 35 degrees) and it was raining. Unless you drive like an idiot, then still do surprisingly well. Any amount of snow or ice is a definite no-go, but right down to freezing, they aren't terrible. They will allow you to happily drift every turn, but basically in those conditions, my 255 section MPSS behaved in a manner that reminded me of the stock size Primacy HPs the car came with.

Great info. I'm also in Chicago. I can't afford both a set of winters/summers so i'm hoping that the MPSS/MPS4S would be a good investment. I don't drive like an idiot in the snow so hopefully my new set of tires will treat me well.

Whoa whoa whoa wait. That's not what I said at all. If this is going to be your year-round daily driver, you will need a second set of tires if you plan to run summer tires when it's warmer. You do NOT want to drive on them in the winter. Never drive on summer tires in any amount of snow. I said I was driving them in rain when I was almost certain there was no snow or ice in the roads due to the temperature out. Today we have snow showers, and the car is staying parked. In fact, I'm trying to talk my girlfriend into staying home from work because she put her summers on last week and has to drive to work (I take the train.)

I run General Altimax Arctic winter tires from mid-November through March at least.

Instead of buying Michelins, get a cheaper set of summers (Hankooks V12s are great and under 125 installed each in our stock size. There's a 100$ rebate going on now too.) That way you save some money for snowies in the winter. It's worth it.

Glad you said that, I just scored 2 brand new v12 evo2s for $120 in my local BST group...hoping theyre a step up from the G-force sport comp 2 ive been using for the last decade

This is so true, people stick to PSS because it is known. But they are expensive.

You can get tires just as good for less if you look around. Hankook and Sumitomo are dirt cheap and Firestone's new Firehawk Indy 500 also has good ratings. They might not be 100% as good as PSS, but unless you are tracking I doubt you'll be able to tell, and all 3 are under $100 a tire on tirerack.

That way you can also get good winter's, which you need if you see snow. I also have the General Altimax Arctic, and they are awesome and inexpensive.

My God yes they are! The comp 2s are a whole class below them. The V12 evo2 is about equivalent to the PSS. Actually faster around the track than the mihelin in tire rack's tests. It's not just a great cheap tire anymore, it's just a great tire.
