New ECUs being installed

Looks as if the Scions are getting a new ECU and the BRZs a new flash. I don't have to worry about that because my ECU is currrently visiting Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.

What I don't understand is that they say that the ECU picks up your driving habits in the first hundred miles but they tell you not to exceed 4000 rpms for 1000 miles - sort of dumb.

I think John or Jeff mentioned awhile ago that the tune removes this type of problem and maybe they can comment on that.

Whats with the first 100 mile ''permanent learning'' done by the ECU. Never heard of such a thing. I know ECUs learn but I have never head of this being permanent. I think this article is BS.

What they are talking about when they are saying ECU's learn your driving habits in "100 miles" is that is a rough estimate of when the LTFT's (long term fuel trims) have settled and the ECU doesnt have to compensate much more for fuel. It never takes 100 miles for the trims to settle in my experience. It is usually around 50 or so miles of mixed driving.

What about resetting the ECU after the break in period? So that it can relearn the trims?
I reset my ECU every 6 months or so just because

Does your car have a stalling issue with that Injen intake? Mine seems to never learn how to idle correctly with this thing, and after a while, I start getting a CEL.

My car idles flawlessly with the stock intake and the other mods I have done to it.

it has the normal idle issue, but lately its dropped to 250-300rpms and seems like the car wants to stall on me. but no CEL light has come up yet.

I've had something similar to this since I purchased my car. I don't get the CEL, but I do get the idle dip. Strangely, it seems to happen when the motor is cold and seems to happen less when the motor is at normal operating temp. Go figure...
