Funny how all the oversea operation needs to make sure people know that this is a Toyota with that extra badging at the back, like how they stuck a Subaru badge at the back of all the export BRZ.

And wow that interior just oozes Bimmer plastics. I wish they would have moved the oh shit bar to the passenger side.

Not surprised. The dealer isn't concerned about losing sales particularly this early on. If they can get 1 or 2 persons stupid enough.....ugm willing to bite on this deal that is more money then they'll make on every other Supra they will sell at or near list price for the year.

Dealers (at least those that don't have "one price" policies) can always find someone willing to pay the premium to be the first on the block. If it doesn't sell, its easy enough to drop it at any moment and start selling for sticker.

I wonder a bit about that video. In it, they say that the drive train is BMW but Toyota took the car and did all the design on the body and interior. However, several BMW owners have stated in this thread that they recognize all the interior bits as coming from other BMW models that are currently in production. So if that is the case, did the Japanese designers and engineers decide that they just liked the BMW style and parts better than anything they could produce? Not that my opinion matters. The car is priced out of my price range for a weekend toy. If the 4 cylinder was to come to NA with the engine rated at 265 HP then they might have a customer in me despite my distaste for German engineering. Alas, it seems that will not happen any time soon.

With a set of modern tires I bet the GTO would put down much better times.

Nah. Tires were not the issue. Power to weight was the issue. At least in stock form. Those big 8s from the 60s and 70s didn't put out the power newer engines do. The nice part was they were really easy to get more out of with some simple mods.
