Funny how all the oversea operation needs to make sure people know that this is a Toyota with that extra badging at the back, like how they stuck a Subaru badge at the back of all the export BRZ.

And wow that interior just oozes Bimmer plastics. I wish they would have moved the oh shit bar to the passenger side.

BTW JBL is owned by Harman.

True, but since I wouldn't be drag racing anyway, I'll still take the GTO.

Not surprised. The dealer isn't concerned about losing sales particularly this early on. If they can get 1 or 2 persons stupid enough.....ugm willing to bite on this deal that is more money then they'll make on every other Supra they will sell at or near list price for the year.

It's pretty normal for any new model enthusiast's car. It also happens with even mass produced ones like the Camaro/Mustang.

When we bought MomHawk's Mustang in 2005 (the year they went to the retro body style) we looked at them at release and the best we could do was get one that was list+10% before junk fees. We waited until September of that model year and got the same configuration for about $1,500 under sticker price.

Dealers (at least those that don't have "one price" policies) can always find someone willing to pay the premium to be the first on the block. If it doesn't sell, its easy enough to drop it at any moment and start selling for sticker.

Yep. That is when we get people saying they saved huge amounts that they didn't really save.

I wonder a bit about that video. In it, they say that the drive train is BMW but Toyota took the car and did all the design on the body and interior. However, several BMW owners have stated in this thread that they recognize all the interior bits as coming from other BMW models that are currently in production. Even to me the interior looks more BMW than Toyota. So if that is the case, did the Japanese designers and engineers decide that they just liked the BMW style and parts better than anything they could produce? I understand parts bin sharing to reduce cost but why then say that Toyota designed the interior?

To me the video comes off a little bit like Toyota saying, "Yes, it has a BMW engine but NO, most everything else really is a Toyota! You believe us, right? Right?" It just seem a little bit too defensive.

Not that my opinion matters. The car is priced out of my price range for a weekend toy. If the 4 cylinder was to come to NA with the engine rated at 265 HP then they might have a customer in me despite my distaste for German engineering. Alas, it seems that will not happen any time soon.

There's supposed to be a new Supra ad following Super Bowl halftime.

From the tone of many posts here and Brady in the game, maybe they should call the ad "Deflategate".

With a set of modern tires I bet the GTO would put down much better times.

Nah. Tires were not the issue. Power to weight was the issue. At least in stock form. Those big 8s from the 60s and 70s didn't put out the power newer engines do. The nice part was they were really easy to get more out of with some simple mods.
