Could this be a problem with the Evap system? If it lets too much vacuum to build up in the tank as fuel level drops, I could see it causing a problem with the weakest part of the system and collapsing the rubber tube.
Just a thought. |

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone knows if this was covered under the 3/36 warranty or the 5/60 ? I'm noticing the pump click off when refueling now as well, and it looks like this isn't a DIY fix :/

Sorry for the thread bump but does anyone know a fix for this apart from replacing the filler neck? It looks to be a huge PITA to put it mildly.

Just remember to support the tank after removing the bands so as not to rip the sensor lines out from the top of the tank. |

Nah, just make sure you have new gaskets for the exhaust and I forgot to mention that you'll need to remove the drive shaft as well. You'd have seen that once you got it on the lift, but worth mentioning anyway. I'd suggest marking the drive shaft orientation just for ease of re-installation.
I changed the filler neck exhaust hose as well only because the dealership gave me the wrong part initially, not necessary tho. |

Does anyone know what the Toyota part # is for this?
I have the old one out, only took about 90 minutes, but no Subaru dealer seems to have one in stock around here. The Toyota parts diagram is oddly enough missing this hose. Thank goodness the hose rotated on the tank side because whoever installed it put the clamp screw side facing up towards the car. |

I ended up not using the Toyota part, I am running E85 now and didn't know whether or not that part is 100% compatible. Most fuel filler hose today is, but just to be sure I replaced it with some Continental 35mm hose instead. It was also about 30% of the cost of the OEM part. No real gotchas to replacing the hose, the only thing to worry about with the tank is the electrical connections to the pump but you can drop it far enough to get at the parts you need to.

Yeah as I understand it, e85 can cause the filler tube to collapse internally. At least that was the case for the original hoses used in the early MYs. The hose that I linked is "supposed to be" ok with e85. Can't speak from experience as I don't run e85.
That said, glad you got it sorted out. |

Resurrecting the thread. My sons 2016 2.0 Series started doing this. Fuel handle won't stay on at all, no matter what position it's in. Only way to fill the tank now is to actually rest the tip of the fuel handle on the outer edge of the fill lip and watch the gas pour in. Takes forever to fill this way but its the only way it will fill. Did anyone determine what exactly the issue is and how to fix it? Filler neck or filler tube? Charcoal canister clogged?
Thanks for any advice! |
