Git ye gone Volkswagen lol. Where I live in Cali you only have to smog on change of ownership, though if I get new headers then I'll keep the stock headers, front pipe and over pipe if I move somewhere else

My understanding is that if it meets the noise requirement of less than 90 dB its fine until you actually go to smog it. Though it doesn't save you from the CHP if they really wanna give you a ticket for something. Meaning you have to drive like a respectable person. I found out recently that if someone complains to the CHP they start patrolling really heavily in that area. The squeaky wheel gets the grease AND the nail that sticks out gets hammered.

Basically getting any exhaust aftermarket parts ,excluding catbacks and axelbacks, will not pass smog. And like Pmok mentioned, you have 6 years before you have to get inspected. Just simply slap on the oem parts, get certified and slap the aftermarket ones back on.

I have a vacation home in Lassen County which is a new owner only county. I keep saying I'm going to change my registrations on all my cars.

All my cars will pass smog, but the entire program now in California is just a money grab.

You have a 2016 car - you won't need to bring it into smog until 2022. Taking the headers off is probably two to three hours tops following a DIY. If you've done it a couple times can do it in an hour or quicker. If you can change a tire, you can install a header/exhaust components. If you're new to cars, you could take it to a car shop and watch them do it and follow along. Most of them are pretty cool about it.

No, but only because you took out the cat in the front pipe. Remember, in California, removing/changing/tampering with any of the stock cats resolves in an immediate smog failure.

Interesting...that's not a real common configuration. Seems like that would have a good chance of getting by the visual, and with the primary cat present it may pass if the sensors showed ready? I dunno enough about it.

I bought my OFH used with 5k miles on it, and put 13k miles on it, with ~8 track days on them. No major issues.

Highly recommended. Good quality header. First headers i bought. Sold them cuz i was too loud at the time. Running JDL headers now. But i never had any issues with the OFH.
