I totally fail to see how so many people don't seem to grasp this very simple concept.
You could make a Prius get horrible and a Hellcat get spectacular mileage against their rated levels if you tried hard enough.

Oh, I understood that. It is just interesting that the 30% disparity exists and isn't reflected in the official EPA numbers. I've seen people reporting north of 30 mpg in the Miata, and the EPA does reflect that.

So I'm left to wonder where the disparity lies. Especially when looking at it from a marketing perspective. Regardless of "because racecar," a window sticker with better numbers should factor into the buying equation.

The EPA numbers are set by a standardized testing method. The "real world" numbers are not always all subject to the same data tracking and will of course vary. I guess it is as simple as they have to use the EPA ones even if they are way off real world.

Then you're not driving it like a "sports car" lol. I can never get it over 29mpg average, no matter what I do..

I have decided that I hate this article. Motor Trend published this garbage knowing full well half the brain damaged people who read it will completely misunderstand the premise and say "Derpie derp derp a Mercedes G63 gets better gas mileage than a Fiat Spider? Well derpie derp tada!" Motor Trend can go suck a bag of ****s.

If you drive it "like a sports car" you shouldn't be getting above 15 mpg.

I always get more city MPG than the EPA advertises (currently been doing 23-24MPG for the past few months) and I'm not even trying to save gas... I'm constantly weaving through traffic, hitting up to 90MPH whenever possible...

On the other hand, back when I had and 06 mustang, my city MPG hovered around 9MPG...

I know conditions are everything. But most people are not going to drive there car on just the interstate. I drive what I consider to be normal 50 town 50 interstate and get roughy 26 combined. But my statement was to really acknowledge that this car is so good no matter how hard I drive it I am at 24mpg. To just drive on the interstate is unrealistic. That's why I said I could not see ever getting 30mpg.

98% of my miles are on the Interstate (well the Canadian version)!
My average has been an un wavering 32MPG for 3 years solid. Even when I play during those other 2% it isn't enough to cancel out all those steady highway miles.

Mind you I am the exception not the rule and all those guys driving 10 blocks in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic everyday balance out the average.
