So trying to deside on which kit to get the 1.5 seems like the one I want because I don't plane on making a monster horse power car but I'm on the fence about the stage 2 what are the major differences between the two in your opinion. It seems like the 2 is more of a over kill if you don't max it out but I may be wrong? My goals are 350 hp can that be done on the 1.5 kit? I have an appointment with Bob Saturday so I need to make up my mind before then.

Technically the 1.5 is the stage 2. Difference between stage 2 and 1 is that stage 2 has a catch can, overpipe, and front pipe as well as different wastegate spring. If you get an electronic boost controller and have a 2.5" or greater exhaust all the way back, you can get pretty much the same amount of power out of a stage 1 kit as a stage 2 kit as they utilize the same turbo.

You'll probably hit around 280-290whp. And you'll likely need a clutch as stock clutch holds around 220lbs-ft of torque.

Bob's going to be much more informative than me. He'll probably walk you through all the different options for you to attain your goals. No need to make a decision right now.

There's a kit on jm auto racing that has a billet turbo that's what I thought was the stage 2. They offer 3 kits one is 3900 one is 4300 and the billet is 5500. Both of the last come with an upgraded 3 bar map sensor but the last one has the billet turbo and an over sized inter cooler. But your right I'm just ready to get this all going. Since I've had the car I've done uel cat less 60mm back and oft but it really didn't do much. Can't wait for the turbo but now I got to sale all this stuff lol.

It was nice meeting you at 86 Sessions yesterday. Can't wait to see your turbo build come to life

I'm just posting as I was curious.

Has anyone here upgraded their AVO18/49 turbo to a different turbo?
(compressor wheel size 49.2/56 | exhaust wheel size 50.5/68)

I'm curious if there are better turbos out there that fit in the avo turbo's spot. I'm trying to find a better turbo that:
1. Spools earlier (mine spools roughly around 3400-3800)
2. Retains efficiency up to 350whp on the FA20. (I'm running flex fuel around 12-13psi)

I'm looking more specifically at Garrett/Borg-Warner . I'm aware that AVO does have a turbo that has a billet turbo wheel, but I think Garrett/Borg-Warner will probably have better designs and more R&D into their turbines to result in better performance.

This idea was sparked by the question "What if the turbo is starting to show its age, and the time to replace it came".

On another point, has anyone found any better-performing intercoolers?

Ya, I know AVO themselves sells an upgraded turbo unit upon request but I have been wondering similar things.. either an upgraded turbo or possibly (somehow) an upgraded header set up.

Normally most people would just say "sell the kit, upgrade to another" but I am in a very small market here, so I dont know if there would be many interested buyers...

oh well! I am glad someone else is looking for options!

I don't think you can blame a motor blowing to a specific turbo kit. It's more to do with tune and improper maintenance.

But to answer your question, I'm sure people have blown their motors running this kit at some point in time.

So I'm thinking about reinstalling my avo kit, my only problem is that i still have oil residue in some of the rubber inlets.. I can't fit my fat arm in there to clean it out. Will it be a problem if I were to just install it as is with the oil residue in place? I don't want to use brake cleaner because i know how that eats away plastic and rubber. Any other solutions maybe?

Has anyone checked whether the current turbo could be replaced by this G25 turbo?
https://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbo...series-g25-550

Or does anybody know the dimensions (and interfaces) of the current turbo in order to see whether this may work?

Correct answer is yes!

However looks like the exhaust housing is a clamp type. This would require fabrication of a different exhaust system at the header and outlet, so probably not worth it.
