Brembo Brakes: Is this the big brake fronts or the cheap brembos?
Sachs Dampeners: Is this even worth it over OEM?

Just saying for that price it seems like we are getting something at a great value but really what are we getting as the company needs to make money?
The tooling for the car is likely paid for or nearly paid for. Mid-cycle refreshes are where all the money is made. That probably plays into the low costs of the performance package as quoted. Sure the prices could go higher at the release date, but the auto press is also quoting the same costs sourced by Subaru.

Wheels, made to be stronger and have lower offsets to clear the new BBK. They're probably very close to the weight of the standard wheels give or take an inconsequential amount.

Pricing - See below
Brakes - See below
Dampers - same

Performance, Packaged

A new Performance package also is available for 2017 BRZs equipped with the Limited trim level and the manual transmission. An $1195 option, it includes Sachs dampers, Brembo four-piston front calipers with two-pot fixed clampers in back (replacing the standard sliding calipers), bigger 12.8-inch front and 12.4-inch rear brake rotors (up by 1.2 and 1.0 inches), and 0.5-inch-wider wheels (wearing the same tires) to accommodate the larger stoppers. The optional dampers further improved body control through the speedway’s fast corners, and the steering was predictable yet razor sharp. Entering the high-speed braking zone, it was immediately noticeable that the Brembos, with their better pedal feel and reduced fade, were superior to the standard binders. The car still rides on slide-happy Michelin Primacy HP tires, and the brakes quickly overwhelm the available grip, leading to early ABS activation. As before, a BRZ owner heading for the track will want to opt for more serious performance rubber....

So do you think we are getting these?

No. It'll likely be some version Brembo offers only to OEMS customized to Toyobaru's specs.

What are the "cheap Brembos"?

The rotors are the same size as the STI rotors at 326f/316r, which is larger than our current rotors at 294f/290r. The piston sizes are different than the STI, which I assume is to manage brake bias. Will it be as effective as the $3500 Brembo front BBK? Probably not. Will it be better than our current OEM brakes? Very likely.

I would say the "less expensive" brembos are the OEM ones. But you are right definitely better. Maybe the reason for this is because though Toyota has been mum on what they are doing from a manufacturing standpoint the FT86 has to have this same package offered to significantly reduce costs.

Well one of the main drawback of the brembos in the PP vs aftermarket is that they will probably have a full iron rotors, where as something aftermarket will have an aluminum hat and iron rotor discs. This cuts down on weight but also increases costs.

Also people comparing the PP brakes to the aftermarket, don't forget you are getting front and rear BBK with the PP with a correct front/rear bias. It's a killer deal, not to mention the wheels and dampers that come with it.

I actually prefer the new base wheels though, the PP wheels are a little strange where the spokes meet the barrel.

Anyone know if the specs on these brembo calipers is identical to the new STIs calipers (i.e. piston size, rotor diameter/thickness etc)

That's to ease the burden on the manufacturing side. New process, equipment, traning, etc throwing in too many extra options is begging for more mistakes.

I've been through that a few times now.

It does but it isnt really a huge cost difference for Subaru over the stock brakes and rims. I think we are just used to aftermarket prices then trying to sell used or like-new parts online.

Just placed my order today for a white limited today at invoice. Going automatic this time, tired of manual lol. I wonder if this means I'm going to miss out on the PP or not since I thought I saw it was only offered on the manual.

No, I'm getting it at invoice. Never paying MSRP. Not even for this refresh.

Have you done your share of reading on the '17s? There is very little incentive to get an auto..
