Sorry this happened. What a pain in the ass.

You owe a set amount for the lease with the expectation that you return the car in good condition. Then there is the residual at the end of the lease period if you want to purchase the car outright which is optional. Your ins will pay whatever the car is worth at the time of the accident. That money will go directly to the lease company (lein holder) to satisfy the balance on the lease plus residual.

If I was you .... I would investigate what caused the fire in the 1st place. Obviously this is a dangerous situation and Toyota would want answers also.

Curious how warranty falls into this. Let us know what the dealership says. Hopefully you did not place any mods on the car.

Good luck

@Flexsupremacy86 my first thought was oil change and they left the oil cap off. I've had that happen more than once, and I now ALWAYS check the caps before I start a car after it has been serviced.

Obviously this would come up as part of any investigation. I blew the photo up and could not spot the filler cap, but that doesn't mean anything.

Aluminum actually catches fire

I feel your pain.
There is a good chance that insurance will come and help you out. But you will always have to lose some.
The reason why the car really burned down to a crisp is because of the aluminum hood. In most cars, if a fire starts in the engine bay and you don't have a fire extinguisher, the best option is to close the hood. However, having an aluminum hood means that it will actually burn down. I remember this because during the Falklands war, Britain lost the HMS Sheffield to an Exocet missile and because the ship was mostly made of aluminum, it caught fire and kept burning for six days.
Most likely you had an electrical short under the hood. If you had extensive mods done there, insurance will very likely balk at paying up.
I wish you luck.
Pat

I literally just bought a brand new SCION FRS 2016 on September 26th with 0 miles on it . it was a ton of fun up until two weeks ago when I was driving on the highway and it started smoking ... then POOF within 5 minutes the entire car was burnt to a crisp . still brand new only had 5 thousand miles ... so I have a couple questions hopefully someone can help me with ..

any idea why it burnt to a crisp?

I leased the vehicle and put 8k on it , insurance says its a loss but does this mean I'm out my 8k?

also should I flip out on Toyota and tell them they owe me a car? its kind of ridiculous I had the oil change less than a thousand miles before and it was still practically brand new ..

any help would be great everyone thank you so much

That's too damn bad ...... glad you got out of it before it went up in flames.

So, what was going on before it burst into flames ...... temp gauge reading .... smell of fuel .....??

As @Tcoat asked ....... any modifications .....??

To cause and feed a fire like that, I would guess the engine suffered a massive fuel leak somewhere after the HPFP ...... and it was fed by the HPFP .....

Oddly enough I sort of made that reference in another thread this morning. Even used a related picture.
