Shoulda bought an FR-S. It has a little lever to dim the mirror. Works great. You can also see the brake pads without removing the wheels.

I think I have a solution:

In the forum's User CP, under "Settings and Options", select "Edit Ignore List". Type "GrantedTaken" into the little box and boom - no more issues! Best forum ever.

Auto-dimming mirrors usually have two photo sensors, one looking forward and one to the rear. The forward sensor determines the daytime\nighttime operation of the mirror by monitoring long-term ambient brightness. The darker it is outside the darker it makes the mirror.

The rear sensor is to detect headlights from behind. If the front sensor says it's nighttime (dark outside) and the rear sensor detects headlights from behind the idea is to further darken the mirror and reduce glare.

Personally I've never had an auto-dimmer that went dark enough or even close to a manual dimmer.

You can try covering the front sensor with tape of varying opacity to trick that sensor into thinking it is darker outside and dimming more. Black electrical tape would provide the most extreme dimming.

Unfortunately, even the most extreme auto-dimming doesn't seem to be as good as a manual dim. If the rear window has a dark factory tint (or more) then auto-dim might be sufficient.

As for the button on the mirror, it turns auto-dim on or off but it's a gradual process and not readily apparent.

I don't know but I will not be trying to help him again. I always give a few chances because maybe things were a misunderstanding but he has now used them all up. I mean really, he can't find the section of the owner's manual? Did it require a page turn and that was to much effort? I found it in under a minute and I don't even have a BRZ manual.

If he is trolling as a joke it isn't working (too subtle maybe?) and if he is serious then he can just go and intercourse himself from here on out.

It may be disconnected. For a while people were buying the auto-dimming mirrors and mounting them in cars that didn't come with them. If yours didn't come with the Homelink mirror, whoever installed it may have not connected the power correctly.

I'm honestly not sure if you're a troll or really this obtuse.

I’m not sure what’s worse, if this person is trolling, or that frustrated with his car. Or her car, or it’s car, I don’t want to discriminate.

I get what OP refers to.

When I have a pick up truck or large SUV with some of the bright headlight systems behind me, the rear view mirror shoots the rays right into the old retinas.

I adjusted the mirror to the right so that I can see a bit more than half of the rear window. Reflections way diminished.

And a bonus, the blind spot is not as bad. One still needs to be sure the outside mirrors are spread out enough. But this helps.

There. Thread over.
