Disguising too. For example, fake vents disguise a boring car as an exciting car, leading to better sales.

Well, I don't know, on one hand it looks to me like a TRD dressed up family sedan.

On the other hand, it looks to be a snappy, good looking, fun machine, for me to run the grandkids up to school and back -

That's what I like about the car, suitable for DD around town on regular gas and cheap insurance or, what interests me, is suitability as a cross-continent sports sedan with the big trunk packed with the wife's necessities (that always involve a rollaboard, three suiter and duffel for anything beyond an overnight) for touring anywhere from Key West to Anchorage.

But, this thing will MSRP over $40K putting it up against all kinds of competition from legit GT cars up that role possibly including the mythical 4-pot Supra.

"Dual" exhausts didn't help 86 sales.

Doubt that fake vents on the Camry will either.

So annoying that Calty, with essentially unlimited R&D resources, continually misses the mark with stupid fake design elements.

A little insight into "what were they thinking":

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf1zjtTxqCg[/ame]

Given the lack of LSD, in track conditions left foot brakers could make it rotate out of steady state understeer if the 8A/T holds gears under WOT.

I'd be interested in the TRD version of the new Corolla hatchback.

they were thinking

"It needs more grille"

Might have to go grilleception with grilles within a grille to create a new trend since front fascias are running out of grille real estate.

Most of the new Toyota models seem like they're trying way too hard.

The lexus grilles were almost offensive when they first came out and now its trickling down to what should be Toyotas most mundane vehicle appliance, the camry.

WTF.

Looked at a Camry on showroom floor Monday. Spec’d Out this non-TRD Camry was $42,000. I’d imagine TRD will add at least $5,000-$8,000 on top of that.

I cannot see paying $50 grand for a Toyota Camry.

Its getting ridiculous. A mid trim forester is now 32K. Facking twins are going for 30K..... Gotta love car pricing.

what is so wrong with fake exterior design elements? At least being fake means no maintenance required.. If it looks good that is all that matters....otherwise you should be saying screw body lines, headlight/taillight shapes, grill/diffuser shapes, etc...virtually most design elements have no real performance benefits except to arouse the viewer. From supercars to the cheapest subcompacts, Virtually every single grill/intake out there are made to appear larger than the actual opening..

From the designer's stand point, Toyota to Ferrari, there are only limited ways to design a car and I don't think anybody wants to be releasing the same designs for decades..with electrification becoming more mainstream, vent/grill fakery will only become even more common.

You're in a private distributor area where they get to slam every car leaving the port with an obscene load of accessories we don't have to deal with in factory regions.

The most expensive Camry XSE V-6 I can "build" came out <$39K without dealer installed accessories.

https://tinyurl.com/ybqube2t

If the TRD Camry follows TRD 86 pricing, add $4K so ~$42K before incentives and negotiation.
