Sprintex 335 Testing & Progress

Just thought we'd have a separate thread for this since the Innovate thread is quite busy with unrelated stuff, and this kit is now finally released in limited numbers. We got some of the first official kits, two systems currently here. One went out to a customer with a built motor, another is parked until we get our car back next week and get a break between the customer jobs to throw the kit on.

Some questions/answers:

Can it run on the stock motor?

So far one or two have popped, but I think we can tune it to survive. In reality the "safe" limit for the stock motor has not yet been established, but we're constantly surprised by the number of folks hitting high 300's and low 400's and using the cars.

Max HP?
500+

Versus the 210?
The 210 maxes out approximately 285-300 WHP overdriven on e85. A 75mm pulley puts it at the redline of the blower at the OEM redline. 70mm overspins it at ~6900 RPM. Any lower can make a bit more HP, but you either pull the redline of the car down, or you lose reliability. Using the 335 we will not have to worry about this!

Project Goals

For our car we will start with the beat up stock motor (25k+ supercharged miles, R&D platform, lots of tip-in knock testing!) Goal will be to see if we can maintain 250-275 torque by blowing off some boost with overlap and dropping cylinder pressures with timing.

Price?
5290 currently. More expensive than the other systems (aside from cosworth) but final power capacity is higher as well.

Anyone doing a similar build chime in, this is not designed to be just our thread. But please keep the content relevant to the system.

Id like to see how this setup does with a wagon wheel sized pulley. keeping intake temps down for track use mainly.

"One or two" of how many engines?

Honestly, it doesn't sound like this larger blower is worth it for people who are not also doing internals.

What is the displacement difference between the two sprintex superchargers?

Nevermind, Found it searching.

The 210 displaces 0.94 Liters/Rev and the 355 displaces 1.46 Liters per rev. So there is about 1.5x the displacement.

Wow, just when I think I have made up my mind another possibility surfaces. I do have a few questions please forgive any naivety.

I assume this will include an air to air intercooler as opposed to the water cooled method that Cosworth is using?

The $5290 will be a TIY price?

Compared to a centri, I assume this will have much better response in the lower RPM's making it measurably quicker for daily driving conditions? Frankly this is the primary reason that I haven't already made the move to FI.

For those considering running stock internals for the time being and doing an engine build down the road, can the power output be safely managed by reducing the redline limits or using a mechanical boost control device? I envision running this setup with a flex fuel tune on an un-built motor for now with 6-8 track weekends per year in the southeast. Currently NA but I have no cooling issues thanks to the Robi Spec cooler.I would be happy with 350 whp peak especially if it is attained at 7K or lower. Is this a realistic expectation? With a built motor and drivetrain, more in the future is a great option.

Lol there is no way to run an air-air IC with sprintex's supercharger manifold. The intercooler will be a laminova air to water. Temps will be lower with this blower.

I'm anxious to see the results on this. If I get back into a BRZ down the road, this is likely the route I'd want to go. Built + Boost!

Well, there is, but it would involve some very creative piping...

5 bucks says you'll get tired of that "vette" quite soon and be back in the fold

I thought the 70 mm was under its max rpm. Sprintex says the 210 has a 16,000rpm max and raceseng says the 70 mm brings it to 15,000rpm at 7,500. I was under the impression that a 69mm would just overspin it by a couple hundred at redline.

the 150 is the 16,000 rpm one. The 210 is 15,000 RPM. I don't have the spreadsheet in front of me, but with the stock drive ratio you're at 15,000 RPM with the STOCK 75mm pulley on the 210 at the 7500 cutoff. So we stopped at the 70mm pulley because anything after that and you're spinning it fast enough that you're going to have to cut the rev limiter down. Keep in mind it is a continuous maximum speed, so in practice occasional overspinning shouldn't do much damage in the long run. But with the smaller blower you're decreasing efficiency and making the intake temps hotter and hotter.

The 335 has the same 15,000 limit, so it should be able to feed 60% more air/rev without superheating the air and be gentler on the bearings. It will still be somewhat hotter due the increased compression, but efficiency wise it should be a relatively cool charge since the rotors won't be spinning nearly as fast to make the same boost.
