Question Track wheel Enkei RPF1 in 16" ??

Would the Enkei RPF1 in 16" fit our cars? Here's the stats from the tire rack website. Wheels are only $221 each. Tires are so much cheaper in these sizes as well. Star specs only $129 each and RE11 only $163 each! (in 205/55R16 sizes)
Enkei RPF1
Size: 16x7
Offset: 35mm
Backspacing: 5.35"
Bolt Pattern: 5-100
Rec. Tire Size: 205/55-16
Weight: 13.7lbs.

Those aren't really made for the 86, but +35 would fit the car. I would never run that small and tall of a tire on our cars, it would be a huge decrease in performance. I'd save your pennies and buy some 17x8 RPF1s and get some 235 Star Specs instead.

The stock GT model in Australia comes with 16" rims and a 205 tyre by default. I made the jump to an 18" rim and 225 tyres. Your claims of a "huge decrease" in performance is a load of horse shit. I've done my fair share of spirited driving and the main difference I noticed was with the tyres themselves as I certainly didn't notice anything drastic that would make me believe my 18" combo created a 'huge increase' in performance.

Good info thanks guys. 16 are so much cheaper but I was just curious as my primary option was 17x9 Enkei RPF1 with RE11 245/40R17. All that is pending someone buying my 18" forged Neuspeeds and the stock Primacy rubber I have sitting here.

A set of 205 Star Specs will give you more grip than the 215 OEM tires. Grip isn't all about the width of the tire.

Then what are you talking about when you said 205 won't give enough grip?

225/50-16 should be a nice size on them.. I'm sure they have some great performance tires out there in that size right..

They'll fit fine - I have that size for my winter rims/tires. The thicker sidewalls give you a more compliant ride though and you might not like the look.

16x7 is way too small. it's not a miata. you can fit 17x9 under there with 245s for track duty. even 225s. i wouldn't go any smaller than a 17" wheel and 225.

Miatas run fine on track with 15" or even 14". Hej, even F1 cars do fine with 13", although obviously those are inferior to an FR-S with 18" wheels -sorry for being sarcastic, but really?!?
Fact: a 16" will be even lower in weight and the rotational inertia will be less because of the smaller size even with the same weight. Even 15" would do fine. Of course you will need a proper tire with a stiff sidewall to make it perform! But the only actual racing reason to go big on rims, is because your brakes need to fit. So unless you have (need?) a BBK or are running 400HP and need massive grip from a 9,5" wide rim, small rims are just fine for the track.
