Joying 8" 2GB Toyota Universal install
Installed my Joying 8" Android unit a week ago, thought I'd give it a review on here in case anyone else was thinking about it.
First off, it is most definitely Chinese. The instructions are in Engrish, but the install is super straight forward. The only thing that was kinda wonky was the mounting brackets. The way it lined up I could only get 3 screws in each side, and I had to mash the little bubble detent on the bracket down so it would sit flush against the head unit. Not a big deal. Note, you will lose your stock USB and AUX ports, but it does come with 2 USB inputs you can use for whatever. I use one to hook up my phone, and one I plugged in a hard drive with all my music and movies and ran it to my glovebox so it is hidden. It's nice being able to chill in the car on lunch and watch TV shows or whatever. The screen is detachable, it just pulls straight out and you disconnect a little ribbon from the back. Nice if you are in the not so nice part of town or have to park somewhere kinda shady. The GPS is nice, comes with the antenna. I just run google maps just like I do on my phone. While I'm home I connect to my wifi and DL the map for my area, or the area I'm going if it's a long trip. If I need to connect on the fly I can tether with my phone, or do screen mirroring which is easy enough to set up. Most things seem to run fairly smoothly. I can run maps and music at the same time without much lag. From the factory I had to calibrate the side buttons for volume up and down as they were not responding correctly. But now they work great. You can actually program the side buttons to do a host of things from the menu, which is nice. I have my power button set to dim the screen for nighttime driving. The only thing is I kinda miss having a volume knob. The screen doesn't sit perfectly flush, there is a tiny gap. You can't notice from either seat unless you put your head almost right next to the dash, so its not a big deal for me. Any other questions just ask! |

Thanks for the mini review. I am considering the same HU, however, I'm a bit hesitant due to the sound quality. What is you experience reagarding SQ?
(My other take would be the Sony xav-ax100, which sounds great but it starts with an annoying message and it looks not as good when it is installed.) |

How firmly does the tablet connect to the unit? Any worries it'll come off on extremely bumpy/crappy roads? Hard to remove? I've been looking at their larger screen units and the thing that concerns me is the stability of the display when mounted.

Ditto
Ditto as said. Another thanks here also.
I like the idea of a tablet sized display. Just installed what most would consider a cutting edge HU as far as features. Yet many look at it and with the trend of larger OEM screens that come in so many cars, they ask if I am looking to upgrade it to something newer and BIGGER |
