They pick up SOOOOOO much power with a tune.
I'm running the Alfaworks Race ECU... so I'm going to guess 300+ HP / 320+ Torque @ the wheels.

I'm guessing I'm below 4sec 0-60 if the tires can hook.

I believe it is common knowledge that carbon fiber parts all have an epoxy/plastic matrix. The question is whether the carbon fiber is just loose filaments in a matrix like MDF or particleboard, or is it layered fabric injected or painted with resin which is possibly a strong shell over a weaker core of plastic, or is it pre-impregnated carbon fiber fabric like exotics. For a given volume or weight, some techniques will create a stronger product, and conversely, some techniques will allow for a lighter or smaller product for a given strength. Some techniques listed already, or other properties like the quality and size of the woven fabric, produce will produce different strengths and/or finishes.

https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/...bon-fiber-cars

After doing some research, it seems that the BMW i3 uses cloth with injected resin, so not a particleboard style like some manufacturers, but not pre-impregnated style like the Alpha Romeo 4C, which is more like exotic cars.

So which one is "CF" and which one is "CFRP"? They're all "CFRP" and they're all "CF". That's what the post I quoted said, "CF or CFRP".

As far as the difference between prepreg and wet, I believe when OEMs do wet layup they would have a process to ensure no voids and similar strength to prepreg. Forged composite parts are also quite strong despite chopped fibers. It's about getting the fibers closer together, whatever process used doesn't matter.

Yes, I understand your comment, and I am conceding that they are the same thing. It is just a common usage to use CFRP when referring to something that is a low or medium density fiber composite versus classically woven carbon fiber.

The article mentions that BMW injects resin into a mold under high heat and pressures. I have no clue if they can achieve a similar quality, evenness, finish and performance that comes from using pre-impregnated pieces; I have seen the 4C in person, and the exposed carbon is really nice.

Some of the forged composites look nice too, but there is no way they would be as strong as traditional carbon fiber just like how plywood, MDF, etc doesn't stand up to the strength of wood or layered wood.

Congrats man. Been on the Alfa 4C forum yet? It's not as "entertaining" as this forum, but plenty of good info.

Yep I'm on 4C-forums -- more DIY'ers than I expected for this type of car.

I hope they miraculously found some good reliability and stuck it in there so that when the value gets to normal car prices they can still be driven hard and not break.

Just like the BRZ / 86, a car cannot simply be measured by numbers. Smiles per gallon is the only metric I go by, and this little Alfa gives you plenty to overdose on.

One car is incredibly balanced, predictable, communicative, an amazing daily driver, and rewards good driving habits.

The other is a vice, criminally unique, abusive at slow speeds, constantly tries to kill you, and rewards bad behavior.

I'm lucky to have both sharing the same garage space.

Please post some Video's of that car when you get a chance
