After getting two gear levers replaced the rattle kept coming back. I've eventually managed to fix it by getting to the root of the problem - the thin washer at the bottom of the gear lever under the car.

You'll see a split pin holding the gear lever to the rod on the gearbox. Remove it together with the thin washer and replace with a thicker steel washer and refit the pin. Problem solved.

( It's the joint right at the bottom of this pic that you're looking for.)

BTW.
I've sprayed some Liqui Moly Tacky Lube Spray in there as well for good measure.

EDIT:

Special thanks to @Freedom who noticed the loose washer.

Do you know the part number for the washer and pin, or the approximate size and width of the washer?

I tried the washer trick mentioned above with a neoprene washer. There is seriously no space there for another washer (mine was thinner than a dime). Tried for an hour to get it in and then gave up and put it back to stock. Very tight working space too.

I actually solved most of the issue by screwing on the shift knob tighter (it's a full metal knob, so it won't bust the top like it may on the stock one). At this point I've just decided to go with "becauseRacecar".

Also had the noise above 4K in 3rd-5th gears. 2013 car.
The Perrin reverse collar appears to have solved the noise in my case.

One tip: getting the pin back through the hole on the cable terminal is a PITA because the cable terminal is under tension and sits very low. Use a screwdriver or the 3/32 hole punch perrin recommends, to release the cable lock and shift the stick into reverse. the cable is temporarily de-tentioned and then it's much easier to replace the holding pin back through the hole on the cable terminal.

I was having this issue as well, and I finally came up with a really easy fix. It's more expensive by far, but a lot easier, and neither the gear shift knob nor the road noise bothers me anymore.

I installed a 700Watt stereo system. No more issues!

Size of washer? Part #?

So... anyone know what Size of washer? Part #? Width?

I don't want to take it apart only to find out I don't have the exact dimension needed to fit the washer...

Car would be out of service for a loooong time in that case.

just might be the solution for that nightmare !!
1 is this approachable from inside the car and not need to do anything under the car ,correct?
2 i can use any steel washer i can find that will fit into there and make it tighter -no genuine is required?

1)No you have to do it from underneath.
2)Any washer that fits is fine, it's a bit tricky finding the right one.

It's not that bad from the bottom. Simply lift the car up.

Any approach without removing any covers ?
Possible with jack stands or only lift?
