Unknown TSB? Help!
Hey Guys,
I previously had an issue with my auto transmission as described in this post: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2901959 Told the dealer about it and they told me there is a TSB related to this, so I went in to get it done. I asked if this was this TSB: S-SB-0021-15. The service rep told me it is not the same, and it is an ECU reflash not a TCU reflash. This guy also owns a frs so I asked him if I flash it with the OFT tunes won't it negate this fix, he told me that the transmission parameters will remain unaffected and the tune shouldn't bring the problem back. Right now my car is sitting outside with the stock tune missing out on all the gains of the OTS stage 2 tune. Should I go flash it? How does this work? Im not sure im understanding correctly but
AFAIK their is no updates required to the engine control module or ECM for any car after 2013 or calibration id of BO1C\D or later. The 2015 had a tsb issued for a TCM. or transmission control module reflash. So i will assume that that's what the dealer did. Note that Subaru and Toyota. Techs will often refer to any of the electronic control modules in the car as an ECU or electronic control unit , so it very easy to become unsure of what they are talking about. Each control unit is separate and not effected by what is flashed to another unit. Im pretty sure they have flashed the transmission TCM not the engine ECM If you want to be super cautious and be able to keep the current engine control unit firmare, then assuming you flashed back to stock before dealer visit then erase oft with openflash manager and then remarry to current calid rom in car. However dealers never mod a rom its always a standard rom so if calid is same as previous then your good to go anyway. the dealer never fiddles with or customizes a rom they just flash the standard file from factory, as per tsb, if their is a change in the rom contents then the calibration id of the rom will change Last edited by steve99; 06-21-2017 at 04:46 AM. |

Awesome. The tech seemed pretty adamant on saying it is a ecu refresh and not the same tcm tsb so I doubted.
Good to hear, I flashed back to the oft tune and haven't had any issues so far. Thanks as always Steve |
