DIY: Broken or Missing Sidemarker A-clip Fix

Turn your front wheels all the way to one side to gain more working room... complete one side then turn to opposite side to complete the other.

Drill a hole as close to center as possible... I used a 1/16" drill bit. I could have gone a little smaller but those drill bits are at my work.

Pass the safety wire through the hole and get a couple of twist or so close to the mounting tab.

You'll pass both ends of the safety wire through the square opening... one will go through the closest hole (maintenance hole) to the square opening (not pictured here)... the other one will go below and then on the outside of the maintenance hole...

The safety wire that passes below the maintenance hole settles in the slot pictured here...

Push in the sidemarker making sure your safety wire ends pass through the correct locations. Using safety wire pliers, twist the safety wire thereby tightening the sidemarker into place. Cut off excess safety wire and bend inward.

You're done! if you ever need to remove your bumper just cut the safety wire to remove sidemarkers. Of course you'll need more safety wire to secure sidemarker again but this is a lot more secure than the A-clip ever was.

This method works great. I use zip ties instead of wire.

I considered it... I love zip ties! lol

I decided on the safety wire so I could drill the smallest hole possible... plus it just occupies less space.

I've learned sheet metal on the job but I'm actually an Electronic Technician... I do mechanical jobs from time to time... I am not an A&P though. Many good paying jobs in the Aviation industry. You have a bright future!

Just and FYI side marker clips can now be purchased at:

http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/oem-...l#.WVz-YoQrKHs

Just use super glue and they will no longer fall out.
