Octane Booster?
using octane booster on our small engine car will harm the injector or engine ? dose it help the turbo gain more power? will use it often damage orings or rubber stuff?

there is a thread in here about it already and i posted a link to videos that showed almost all of them did nothing for power. there was one or 2 that showed a minor hp incrase.

The only one that works for me and is recommended by my tuner is Torco Accelerator Fuel additive. It itself is not a fuel. It is a additive that adds MMT which is a knock suppressant. I run it at the track to keep things happy and safe.
Don't bother with typical autozone "octane boosters".

Hate to bump an old thread but didn't want to start a new one, I was thinkink about running octane boost ever fillup since I'm stuck in CA with the closest e85 station 40 miles away. If I decide to run 32oz of the torco every fillup it'd boost my octane to around 100 according to the graph. (Since our tanks are only 13 gals) I'm getting my car tuned next week and he said for safety if I wanted to run octane booster I should tune for 91 so the car isn't reliant on it. If I tune for 91 and run the torco would the ecu be able to calibrate for it? Or would I need to tune for around 100 oct? Thanks for any help, BTW going to be doing a road tune with BRZEdit. Car is still NA.

If you're tuned with 91 but your tank has 100 octane, your car will not perform fully using 100 octane. It'll still look for 91 octane, since it's tuned that way. Ask the tuner if he can give you 2 different maps; 91 and 100. You can run 91 on a regular day and swap it to 100 if you decide to use torco additive. However, never run 100 octane file with 91 fuel! Make sure your tank is filled properly before you change maps. |

Power is lost when using lower octane fuels due to the ECU adjusting to compensate.

E85 vs fuel is a whole new issue as they do have different contents. When you have a high compression build or forced induction, the ecu will retard the timing. (Sentence in the article explains the knock sensors). The whole point is, if you're going to get 93 octane gas and boost it up to 100 octane through octane booster, you're not really going to see any improvements if your tune is meant for 93. If your tune is meant for 100 octane, then yes. There will be a HUGE difference as it will run it's tune for 100 at 100 octane and when the ECU senses a lot of knocking, it will retard the timing to what is adequate for 93 octane.

Thinking I'll just head up with 100 Oct fuel and have him tune it on that then lol thanks for the help all, I don't mind paying 114 for a case of torco, 6 bottles should last me 2 - 3 months based on how I drive. Thanks guys!
