Ironically I have an E85 station a stone's throw from my house, but the next closest one is more than 50 miles away. Instructions that came with the OF T say not to leave it in a hot car. My car is black and lives in Florida. It would be easy enough to flash it back to 93 if I can't find any E85, but if the tablet won't survive those conditions, that takes away an option.


Question two, and tell me if this is silly, how do you handle the transition if you drive up with a nearly empty tank of 93 and fill with E85. Do you just flash it there at the station and be on your way? Vice versa with alcohol to 93?

In regards to question 1, some people keep a jerry can of E85 at home just in case.

Precautions

As you have no flex fuel sensor you need take a couple of precautions when changing from petrol to E85 or the other way around.

• Run tank down till low fuel light comes on
• Fill with E85
• Plug in OFT to monitor fuel trims (leave petrol tune in at present)
• Drive slowly below 3500 rpm no WOT or hard acceleration until you see STFT rise rapidly followed by LTFT and stay high, this indicates that the petrol is now out of lines and the E85 has made it through the lines and pumps, this generally takes 2 or 3 km
• Pull over and turn off car Flash E85 tune with OFT (Stage 2 EL E85) for stock car or car with EL headers or Stage 2 UEL E85 if you have UEL headers.
• Start car and drive slowly again below 3500 no hard acceleration for next 10 to 20 km until your fuel trims LTFT/STFT stabilise below about 10% while cruising and idle, this allows ECU to learn the E% of your E85 mix.
• Then do two or three light steady throttle (about 10-20%) runs in second or third gear 2000 rpm to 6000rpm (just let the rpm's build slowly), none of this is 100% necessary it just helps ECU learn quicker
• If you do flash the E85 map at the pump on switchover the learning process will take longer as the E85 tune will try to learn petrol then when the E85 gets into the system it will need to learn E85.

Reverse procedure to go back to Petrol.

Was this ever resolved? My brand new OFTv2 is having the same behavior with my 2016 Subaru BRZ. Was stock, got nearly new from CarMax, and the first time I plugged in the tablet it claimed it "read" everything okay.

However now it behaves exactly as described. You click "tuning" and it gives the mismatch error, you plug it into OpenFlash Manager and it claims it's not married to anything. Properly communicates with the ECU, pulls the version and whatnot just fine, but refuses to either be updated or to give access to the Tuning menu.

I've opened a ticket with openflashtuning but it sounds like that may not be the right way to get ahold of the company?

Just wanted to give an update in case this comes up for anyone else. I opened a ticket with the company, Anthony got back to me in about a day, and after collecting a little information from me said it was caused by a a bad software update.

He set an appointment up with me, and over about an hour got my tablet restored, the new tunes loaded, and verified with me that it was all correctly flashing.

Tablet works great now, exactly as intended! Thank you so much, OpenFlash, this is great stuff I feel confident recommending.

If I have a 2014 car and I’m getting 2019 fa20 long block if I switch over the harness from that 2014 that blew to the new one my tune should still work right ?

Other drama is while the ecu and current tune in ecu will get the 2017 engine running, the tuning required to run the 2017 engine is a lityle different to the earlier motors, about ,4 degrees less timing. And you cannot simply flash the 2017 rom as its not compatable and car wont start.


You will need to tweak the tune to run well with the 2017 motor

Ok that’s not that bad the guy said he also put the cam gears are they different design from the 13 on the the 17 block was that necessary or can it be addressed with oft tables ?

it gives me a calibration code and the read and wright are grey and can’t do anything, i have a 2018 toyota 86 wondering if the newer cars can’t work with the oft unless you do something on the computer to make it work i’m not sure

Ok if read button went grey, it read your stock ecu ok.


The read is grey as oft doesnt have your ecu calid in its onboard database.


Go to ecu info under tuning, find you ecu calid be somethung like ZA1JN10C


Then go to the openflash support site and downliad tune files for your cakud then upliad to rablet anf flash

Im really curious on whats going on
After the tablet read my ecu, the “write” option is no longer grey. And i clicked it and there was already 3 maps. Stage 1.......
stage 2......
stage 2.....
Is that normal for the v2? It like downloaded the maps by itself. Can someone please help me or tell me whether its normal or no

It comes with pre-loaded tunes.

So I have a few questions about OFT and Headers:

I've heard the OFT Catted Header tune was designed around the FT86 Speed Factory Header. Is this true? Does it play well with any other Headers on the market?

What about their Catless tune? Which available Headers does it work best with?
