Why is midrange so flat after a new flash?

After flashing it takes my car around 2 days to get its midrange back? IAM is set to 1. Up to 4000 pulls good then its flat until around 6000rpm when full boost comes in. After 2 days it pulls great until full boost comes in at a lower 5500. Its around 3 lbs of boost at 4500, 12 lbs for full boost for now.

Who is tuning it? Are you logging LTFT? Did they change anything with the tune?

Let me try to reword how I'm understanding this. You reflashed the car, it pulls good until 4k, when you have positive boost pressure. After 6k you have built up to 12 psi and the car pulls hard again.

2 days after this, the car pulls good UNTIL 6k and then it loses its power? This sounds like timing and fuel are being bamboozled up top. Check your LTFT and timing in areas where the car bogs in datalogs. Most importantly, let your tuner know.
Do you have and datalogs you can share with us?

My engine is 10.5 to 1. gt4202r turbo and I am tuning using rom raider and mafscaling 2.51. Full boost always pulls hard just slower to get there after a flash. ltft is 0, revlimt is set at 8k

Please get a turbo blanket, you're defeating your intercooler but not protecting the piping going to your throttle body.

Anyway, without datalogs it's tough to pinpoint causation. I'm assuming that these runs are done WOT and with the car at the same temp? Have you tried reflashing the exact same map right after the car does a "good" pull to see if driving right after results in the issue you're describing?

I'm going to assume you're tuning it yourself if you're using Romraider. Can you datalog a good run, a bad run, and present them here?

How much drop in IAT should I expect with a blanket?

Not sure, I just know that the goal is to keep the air as cold as possible. The slightly cheaper alternative would be to at least put some gold tape on it, but it looks tacky in my opinion. I'm getting a blanket for mine soon because it superheats everything in the area.

The one advantage you have are the badass track spec hood vents. It rains a lot here and my car gets driven every day so I just can't add vents . For a PTP blanket it's less than $200. I'd say it's worth it with your turbo being so big.

Just wondering because IAT is at 91f at 12lbs of boost with ambient of 88f. You think I can get below ambient with a turbo blanket?

They do look good but I don't have any.

I'm not sure why I thought you had them. Well if you're comfortable with the heatsoak when you're not flat out then it's fine

Large turbines are less restrictive so they don't get as hot as smaller ones. Large compressors also don't stretch the air that is entering the turbo as much, which also keeps charge tempature down.

When you say flash, are you e-tuning or dyno tuning? You really need to dyno tune it to get the most out of the setup. As far as it getting its midrange back after two days, I would datalog it after a flash, and then datalog after it gets the midrange back and compare the two side by side. It may be difficult but it can be done. This is really all the advice anyone can give without seeing the logs. Well.... this may be happening but I dont know. On some of these vehicles, the Exhaust cams don't like to swing for a while after flashing. We've experienced this a few times, but the problem is very pronounced. What you could do is just plug in and log VVt Exhaust and see if it shows any angle change when you blip the throttle (sitting still is ok).

I have it on a butt dyno. Using romraider, logging, and mafscaling 2.51
Its very obvious that its low on power for ~10 pulls
Not really worried about getting every ounce of hp out of it, just wondering what the heck the computer is testing, doing the first couple of runs. I kind of figured it was the pedal learning that others have posted about.

Is there a reason you won't give us datalogs? https://datazap.me/ lets you upload them for free.
