Going to try again today with some pointers from people online.

Also, my oem water pump (re-used it) is leaking from the weep hole. That was a cool $200 I saved, now I have to reclaim my coolant and take off a bunch of stuff to replace it.

I could officially go cash out a new MK5 Supra or older MK4 Supra with a turbo and v160 in it with the money I have wrapped up into this stupid car. I hope if my build thread proved anything to anybody it's, do not do this. Find another platform or buy one already swapped.
I understand you 100% People talk of swaps like its super easy business and it's not... it's time consuming, frustrating and a lot of money. Yes, all situations are different, but in general that's what they are. Yes, the car is a bunch of fun when done, but the road to get there, it's usually a PITA.

Those are for people who want cars by signing on the dotted line. lol. This build takes dirty hands, money, and garage work. Keep it going, man!

First start up went well!

Nothing too fancy but she idles decently. I need to have the tune touched up for the bigger cams and then finish the exhaust. Install interior, button up some stuff, and then tuning!

Where would you say most of the large unexpected costs came from?

If you were to do it again, how much cheaper do you think you could do it the second time around?

What do you think has been the single most difficult task in the project?

Where would you say most of the large unexpected costs came from?
Answer: Definitely the Motec ECU and the engine wiring harness. Then after that all the other aftermarket stuff I had to go with for my power goals (single turbo, built head, better trans, diff, axles, etc)

If you were to do it again, how much cheaper do you think you could do it the second time around?
Answer: Maybe save myself a grand total of $3,000? That's if I went with a Haltech or ECU Masters and then other tidbits that I just had t do twice over because this was my first time around.

What do you think has been the single most difficult task in the project?
Answer: Definitely clearancing the trans tunnel and fitting the engine and trans. I consider those all part of 1 grand total task. Runner up to this would definitely be random BS. Examples: parts plain old not fitting, having to custom make certain things because not every part is available for these swaps, dealing with fitting an aftermarket intake manifold, etc.

I'm a pretty decent mechanic and very knowledgeable in the aftermarket industry. Sadly, there isn't a really huge direction that I could have gone in any aspect of this experience that would have made a big difference. If anything, it could have been MORE expensive in certain aspects. I'm not entirely satisfied with my coolant lines to the heater core and a few other small things but i'm making it work for now. There's a lot of things that could have been "cleaner" if I had spent more money.

This is kinda where I'm at. If I did it again, identically, I couldn't really save a while lot. Maybe a couple Grand. But I felt the transmission tunnel work wasn't that bad. Maybe the transmissions are differently shaped. I wonder if the Hydra computer I used can run a 2jz...

Most people got away with massaging the tunnel. I massaged it for literally 4 weeks and then gave up and cut recesses and boxed them in with a welder. It was necessary for proper clearance. (I have about 3/4" clearance around the bigger parts)

Wish I knew. My best guess is my engine sits further back but i'm using the pure automotive mounts which I know a lot of people are as well.

Just a guess, but hammering metal is like forging metal—making it harder. I could imagine that the metal could have gotten worked in such a way as to make it more difficult to bend. It can also get kinks and ripples that not only stiffen that section, but it can make it brittle, which leads to cracks. I’m sure it can turb into a nightmare real fast without a clear plan or a few wrong approaches.
