Is there a such thing as a 30 minute commute in that area? Maybe if you move 3 blocks from work.

Guess I have a new goal now, aim for that promo and save up for down payment in a couple of years.

Life, I hate you.

Yeah, well, it would probably be closer to 40 minutes, but it would eliminate the need (desire?) to use the 407. At the times I come into and leave work, traffic on the 404 isn't too bad.

Plus, my commute distance would be almost cut in half, and that's a huge plus. Less personal KM on the work truck, and less guilt about driving my car to the office.

Not saying it's good/bad either way but is something to consider if you have not.
As a former schoolteacher, you bet I considered it!! The golf course partially offsets the sucky schools and most of the residents will be like us -- empty nesters, singles or couples without children. Since I'm already 60, I suspect the move after this one will be to the old folks home. The situation in this town (Manor, TX) is exactly the opposite of many areas with bad schools: it is a formerly rural area that is beginning to grow rapidly and with more affluent people moving in. I expect the schools to improve over time as the tax base improves.

Austin is growing so rapidly that the housing inventory can't keep up. 160 people A DAY. Those people have to had somewhere to live; in many parts of town the occupancy rate for apartments approaches 100%. Thus the rapidly rising real estate prices.

So I read today that there was an Ivy League economics professor doing math on a plane, a woman reported him for suspicious behavior and he was questioned for 2 hours, because he was writing 'strange' symbols on his paper.

Ok, America, education is so important....ohhhh oh so important.

But to her defense, differential equations looks scary enough to call a terrorist...
