I, like TylerLieberman, also own a second-generation tC. Buying this car was a HUGE mistake. I bought it with the intention of keeping it for ~5 years, but its quirks have me annoyed to the point that I can't wait until my BRZ arrives. The rev hang is extremely obnoxious, the steering is terrible, the engine is completely uninspiring, and the materials are extremely cheap. I was so excited by the prospect of having a new car that I completely overlooked all the negatives about it. Also, the stock tires offer very little grip, especially when it's wet outside. Now that I've had mine for 16 months, all its negatives have come to light.

i think the frs/brz will lose a lot of sells, to the tc/impreza. for people who don't car about the heritage, me included. it is not the best value.
im buying this car because: i like to drive, but dont plan on doing any race events. decent on gas, looks great, and simply need a car. the FRS is the only car i Want to buy, the next car on my list is actually a small suv. |

Maybe I'm off base, but I think I see what Dimman is trying to say. It's more of a specific question... if they both use a lot of parts-bin components, and one doesn't have precious metals hidden under the seats, how can there be a $5K difference?
My knee-jerk response would be R&D. The TC does not require a specific driving dynamic. They did not set a goal of making car magazines rave about its balance. The goals were demographics, focus group responses, sales through marketing. So, they were able to make some broad decisions on styling, ergonomics, etc., and then plug it into a CAD program and let the robots build it. The 86 had to be driven and reworked, tweaked, etc., over and over. That's why it was 4 years in R&D. That's how it can generate the smiles and the rave reviews. That's what we are paying for. Simply imagine if they didn't spend the time tweaking the platform and handling. Imagine if it was $5K cheaper because once they decided to build it, they accepted the first iteration, the one with broad appeal that satisfied the committees... some people would be thrilled that they were getting a FR sports car for $21K, and especially thrilled if it looked good and had 240 hp. However, the magazines would have ripped it apart; the die-hard driving enthusiasts would have left this car and forum long ago. It may have had initial sales, maybe even a long term commercial success. But it wouldn't have recreated a niche, it wouldn't be a car worth waiting 4 years for, or one that leaves everybody smiling after they drive it for the first time. |

I had the 2006 tC and I loved everything but the weight and hp. It's a very very slow car. Almost any car is faster than a tC. The FRS is better than a tC and every Scion car in every aspect.

Why? Did you not learn anything? They are the same cars...The Fr-s is just an overpriced TC, without a glass roof.
