Maybe for mk2 in 2024

Personally I'm interested in the car remaining as basic as possible. Keep all that extra crap for the white collar crowd, and for the above, not for me thanks.

I certainly noticed how Toyota ruined the 86 by giving it a bland interior for 2017 to suit the white collar crowd...sorry Toyota, if I need a replacement it's gonna be a BRZ.

Let's give it more power, make it harder riding, a more complicated front suspension, possibly remove the power steering, result, even more of a driver's car. Radio delete, why not.
I WANT MY RADIO DAMNIT! OK if it is just FM with a coupe of knobs though.

Gotta admit, I do listen to the music system in my car (not the actual radio, but music via the usb input).

I listen to music more often than I did upon first ownership.

Would I miss the 'radio' if it were not there ? Probably rarely.

Also it's much safer at my age driving sans distractions. I always turn off music in heavy traffic. Getting old...

Let's be perfectly honest here. Does anyone really think this car will be around long enough to even warrant an overhaul of the interior? Two,maybe three years max is about as long as I see this car being around.

Do it. If you remove the center stack, the clock module snaps out of the back of it. You could easily make a pocket to go in its place or have someone 3D print you one.

If you slide the armrest back so you can store your phone closer, there's no reason to have the armrest. Which is why I didn't buy it.
I think you're missing the point. It slides. You rest your arm on the armrest. When you need your phone, you lift your arm, slide the armrest back, pick up your phone and use it. Then you put the phone back, slide the armrest forward again and put your elbow on it. I do this all the time with mine without thinking about it.

Or you could just complain about not having an armrest, when a perfectly adequate solution exists.

The Australian 86 has had a start button since 2012.

I like the steering wheel having no buttons.

It's been an option in all markets. What he wants is to move the start button to the steering wheel, because the center stack is too far to reach, and he has to rest for a moment after pushing it.

I have that issue with reaching the head unit controls. That 8" reach is just more than I can manage some days. Not really sure how I ever changed the 8 track tapes.

And damn those angled controls would have made pulling the choke knob a lot easier than being inset and behind the steering wheel. I have no idea how anybody managed to drive before everything was an inch away.

I get the advantages of ergo set ups but for a bunch of guys that want a "raw" car there is a whole lot of nit picking. Carbon inserts instead of plastic? Shift lights in the steering wheel? MORE controls on the steering wheel? When the 86 hits the price point of the Pista then maybe it will have the same features.

Sure that you weren't glad you didn't have to build up a head of steam?

Oh, YOU had a tape player in your car ...... an 8 TRACK at that ......
(spoilt city kid)

Before that, once you did find the choke knob and pulled it out, one had to reach all the way over to the center of the floorboard, with your right leg and push the starter pedal.

Don't forget to push the choke all the way in after a spell ..... NO, the manual never said how far and for how long to keep it pulled out.

If you wanted to dim your headlights ...... you had to find the dimmer switch on the floorboard ..... with your left foot ...... yep, the same one you used to push in the clutch ...... so get your timing right.

Fresh air ....... oh yes, just reach under the center of the dash and push the vent lever down. Don't forget to open up the side vent (manually) to let the smoke out.

OK, here we go down the highway. Cruise control ..... of course ..... just pull out the throttle cable, that's on the dash, and hold it out with a coin jammed behind it ...... size of coin would depend on how fast you wanted to go.

I just don't know how we managed ......

By being shown how to do it by parents, or actually reading the f-ing manual.

Yep, we learned by watching our parents, because, we were NOT strapped to a board, facing backwards, in the back seat .......
