This is one to suit a VW Golf. They end up quite thin between the gates on most normal non-supercar gearboxes

If you measure the diameter, and exact points of each gear ie center point where the gear shifter is in relation to the center point I can fab one up as a prototype. Here is a draft without the proper dimensions:

Want an exotic shifter that is better than stock and you can live with on a daily basis once you are use to it? Then get this:

CAE Ultra Shifter, German designed, made, and assembled...

I love mine and would never go back to stock.

Nice shifter but on the street and if involved in an accident I fear hitting this and end up crapping out my liver if i get tossed around in an accident.... if there's a shorter version that would be cool... :] I'm 50/50 on this. I like the craftsmanship.

You don't wear a seat belt?

If you're in an accident that's bad enough to potentially throw you into the shifter, you've got other things to worry about.

Not defending that statement- as I have driven quite a few of the supercars from that era and greatly enjoyed them- but see James May's review of the Countach

Gates shifter probably has little need on a street car with synchros in which the shift lever attaches right to the transmission. The gated shifter prevents missed shifts from the diagonal move that could cause bending or unwanted twisting of the long levers that control a rear-mounted transmission.

In 1966, when Ferrari moved the transmission of the 330GT to the rear (330GTC) the gated shifter was added.

What's the net over the shift knob on the last one even for?
