Yep, fer sure.

I got this "trick" left hip that seems to sort of "disappear", in a painful flash each morning. The timing is predictable (if I'm paying attention).

I get up, stagger into the kitchen, punch the coffee maker button, feed the outside semi-feral cat, put out 5 handfuls of squirrel food (mostly for the totally blind squirrel).

Then pour myself a cup of coffee and quickly head for the deck and sit down.

Now, if I do ANYTHING else to stall that routine, my hip "explodes" on the way to the deck, while holding that cup of hot coffee .....

Oh, wait ....... which forum is this ??.....

Sorry about your hip, but you must be blessed with an exceptional bladder since you don't visit the lavatory before tending to the livestock :-)

Well, thanks ...... the hip was the second thing to go ......

About the bladder, since you asked, after a couple of cancer operations down around those parts, I have been blessed with a very strong valve that keeps me from peeing during the night.

However, it takes a while in the mornings for it to "let go" ...... therefore, I have some time to do a few other things.

TMI ..?? Well, you did ask .......

We're all adults even if from time to time we don't act like it.

Actually, I hurt my hip by jumping out of a Huey (a army helicopter - for the young-ens) one very dark night, during an air assault exercise.

The jerk chopper pilot was to touch the ground/water in the swamp when he told us to bail out, which would have made for a 5' fall.

Instead, we were about 15-20 feet off the ground when we jumped. Now, when you are loaded with full combat gear and you prepare for a combat roll after a few feet ....... and you don't hit the ground for another 15 feet ...... the landing can be quite uncomfortable, to say the least.

Needless to say, that was the loooongest 2-3 seconds of my life .....

Afterwards, we looked for that W-2 pilot ....... but never found him ......

Yes, I did fall ........

Well, since it was a training exercise at Ft Benning, Georgia, in 1966, ...... the Army had more on it's mind than a few soldiers with sprained ankles and a aching hip. Besides, we were officers, impervious to pain (with the help of a generous supply of codeine)........

HOOAH !!!

I get that but PLF or not, that's bullshit. You spend the rest of your life with a trick hip. One of these days I'll tell you all about my adventures with asbestos. :/

Well, in my military experience, that was a minor "training" accident.

The worst one I saw was when a soldier, during AIT (Advanced Individual Training) down at Fort Ord, CA, on an M-16 firing range, emptied a magazine into a fellow soldier he had a spat with.

As the Company Commander, that letter to the parents of the soldier that was killed, was the hardest letter I ever had to write.

OK, when we get together, you can tell me about asbestos and I'll tell you about experimental pesticides that I worked with that were found out to be carcinogens .......

Meanwhile, I see the granddaughters have finished their eclipse viewing boxes ........ so, I'd best get my two sheets of white paper together and poke a pin hole in one of them.
