SEATBELTS horrible retractor

I am getting extremely frustrated with my drivers side seatbelt. On more than one occasion the seatbelt has not retracted well enough and I have found myself shutting the door with the seatbelt dangling outside, or I have shut the door on the metal belt part itself!!!

Has anyone else been faced with this issue?

Mine are quite the opposite, I find it retracts almost to well. If I'm not careful the buckle goes flying upward and hits the window, always worried about scratches or cracked glass.

the only seat belt problem i have is the rear passenger one. It doesn't fully retract and when the window's open, it flaps like crazy

I bought my car in Sept, 2012 and have 14,000 miles on it. The car only comes with one color interior.

Not with my FR-S, but with another car (Miata).

What you might try is to clean the seatbelt with warm soapy water (to make sure there isn't something gummy on it which would slow it down going through the slide).

Also, you could check the slide for any obstructions.

Or .... take it back to the dealer for replacement.

I'd take it to the dealer. You bought a new car with a warranty to avoid any issues. You didn't buy a new car to have a warranty sit and expire and fix all the issues yourself.

Mine is weak as well. I can't think of a car I've ever had that did not have a weak retractor. However, unbuckle, lift buckle up and to the rear over your shoulder, problem solved.

I've had this in every dealers I've worked in various brands same problem same solution. Try pulling it all the way out and go at it with a vacuum cleaner if not go at it with a interior shampoo. Also thoroughly clean the guide on the b pillar. It's worse on black or grey belts because you don't realise how mucky they get. Particularly if you share the car with a girl as they tend to have residue of face creams and make up on their hands and neck that the belts pick up. Those are also what rotts cheap steering wheel leather making them melt/blister and peel.

I wouldn't do anything to it other than take it to the dealer for replacement. And FYI it doesn't matter how many miles/years you have on it. I believe seatbelts are lifetime warrantee devices.

I wonder if seat belt retractors in US models are loose to fit the typical American tummy without being too snug? OP, in order to comply with the forum SOP you need to demand a new car.
