I tried the mt-90 in my e36 m3

I prefer factory fill:

my m3 tranny gets this
http://pentosin.net/pressreleases/CR...nto_MTF2_2.pdf

same as factory

that liqui moly gl4 is good stiff too
in a pinch absent the toyota fluid, I'd use either the liqui or pento gl4

my brz rear diff = motul 300v 75w90

How's that working for you? Any noticeable differences from OEM? I've been considering Motul 300v or Motylgear when I get past break-in.

Warranty repair to transmission? Are you allowed to say what the issue was?

I've got the same AZ6 6MT in my Altezza & I run Redline MT-90 in it. It's the perfect oil for this transmission IMO, much better than the factory fill. Amsoil MTG is another worth looking at.
I don't have any issues with cold shifting but the coldest it gets here on a winters morning is @ 35°F

A Subaru tech over on another BRZ forum runs MT90 and has good results with it.

It's going to be easier to find a GL-4 oil since the API considers GL-3 obsolete.

I've had good luck so far with the MT-90. I've got about 4000 miles on this fluid. It gets pretty cold here over the winter and I suspect cold enough that I may need something a little less viscous. I have a quart of MTL (it is thinner-like a honda fluid) here that I could add to the trans if things start to get crunchy or otherwise unruly. Failing that, I will try the Pentosin fluid. I found a local shop that deals with CRP and they can get it. Pricey stuff, but worth it if it does the trick.

It's not advisable to use a GL-5 in these transmissions. Supposedly it is harmful to yellow metals/brass. Stick to GL-3/4 as per the factory specs. Redline, Amsoil & Pentosin all make suitable GL-4 75w-90.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but did you ever end up figuring out how to get the fluid, or did they just get a GL4 after all?

gl3 standard was replaced by gl4

simple

you want a gl4 oil

sae weight means nothing
its all about cst

unless you know the oe fluid cst, you need to make an educated or scientific guess, or shoot in the dark for what aisin specs
not sure why there is so much experimentation when there are one or two fluid specs that seem to work
I'm having success with 75w oils that flo 100c cst 8.0 or lower in my 6MT
honda and miata dealers are stocking oils that are also low cst oils fwis on cars that have dealer fluid support and use our trannys

Good luck to thos of you searching for something else, lmk what you find

Hey man,
I know you're quite passionate about this topic, but I was more interested in what happened with this since it was warranty work.

From a company that supplies additives to the major oil companies:

Quote:
* API Categories GL-1, GL-2, GL-3 and GL-6 were declared inactive by SAE Technical Committee 3 in 1995, even though oils may be marketed with these designations. Similarly, ASTM does not plan to maintain the performance tests associated with these categories, as in a number of cases these tests can no longer be run because parts or test installations are not available.

You won't have a problem with the warranty since GF-3 has technically been obsolete since 1995.
